Qualifications

Experience: Minimum two years’ experience in a public health setting.

Licensure: Licensed Clinical Social Worker Certification (LCSW or LCSW-A) or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LMHC or LPC) in good standing with the Social Work Certification and Licensure Board of North Carolina (or equivalent)

Responsibilities

Provides behavioral health and substance abuse screening, brief intervention, education, and referral services for students in the school setting.

Provides ongoing consultation and treatment planning support for school staff in their work with patients with psychosocial, behavioral health, behavior change, and/or substance use concerns.

Is knowledgeable of and adheres to all policies, professional practice standards, philosophies and requirements for professional clinical practice.

Practice reflects adherence to professional Code of Ethics.

Provides evidence-based assessment, intervention, consultation, and referral services for patients with a variety of behavioral conditions.

Performs casework service with individual students and parents to correct those personal, social, or emotional mal-adjustments related to their educational social progress.

Performs casework service with parents to increase the parents’ understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child’s problems, and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.

Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on a case, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the students’ behavior.

Keeps sufficient records of cases for use by school staff members and outside agencies when appropriate.

Adhere to Board of Education policies and procedures.

Work with other student support staff.

Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Extensive knowledge of educational laws, policies, rules, practices, and school board policy.
• Thorough knowledge of counseling ethics, procedures, and practices.
• General knowledge of the traits and characteristics of the varied student age and ability groups.
• Ability to analyze situations, determine possible options, and make appropriate decisions based on the facts and the specific situation.
• Ability to use sound judgment in approaching and working with sensitive and difficult situations.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, students, teachers, staff, administrators, agency personnel, and others.
• Ability to develop and compile records and s.
• Ability to plan and organize multiple activities, projects, and other tasks and monitor each appropriately.
• Must be self-motivated, self-directed, collaborative and flexible.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
• Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
• Must possess the visual acuity to prepare data, work with records processes, and do extensive reading and research.
