POSITION SUMMARY
The Health and Safety Coordinator s directly to the Health and Safety Manager, and will be required to promote safety attitudes, safe work practices and environments as well as manage, maintain and administer the Health and Safety program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Organize and conduct staff safety meetings;
· Engage, train and mentor employees about our Learning Management System (LMS).
o Input employees’ certificates
o Complete new hire orientations
o Work closely with Project Managers/ Operations Managers in all LMS matters
· Conduct field/ site audits;
· Assign Green Hand Gold Hand Assignments and follow-up;
· Assist with tracking Health and Safety stats;
· Participate in incident investigations;
· Coordinate staff safety training;
· Conduct safety training within his/ her scope of experience and certification;
· Assist Health and Safety Manager with coordination of all divisions requirements for maintaining COR Certification;
· Provide support to the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee as needed;
· Overall administration of Nupqu’s Garmin account for InReach devices.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education
· Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
· Formal training in Safety from a recognized training facility considered an asset
Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience
· 2+ years of related experience and/or training
· Proficient use of the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, email and web searches
· Strong understanding of OH&S regulations
· Strong understanding of Workers Compensation Act
· Effective communication skills – oral, written & interpersonal
· Ability to perform filing and record keeping tasks
· Data entry and word processing skills
· High level of integrity, with a strong sense of urgency and results orientation
· Ability to prioritize when working on multiple projects simultaneously
Certificates & Licenses:
· Occupational First Aid Level 3
· Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
WORKING CONDITIONS
The Safety Coordinator position is both office and field based. Driving is a requirement of the job. As well as extended periods of sitting and extended periods of computer and office equipment use. Some light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time is also required. This is an hourly position. It is understood that should extra hours be needed at times to meet expectations and work load, compensation for this time will be included in the salary wage.

· Travel required within Fernie and the Elk Valley area
