The Population Health Research Institute (PHRI), a joint institute of Hamilton Health Sciences and McMaster University, with over 300 employees working directly with 60 researchers. PHRI conducts clinical research internationally in 101 countries and is a world leader in large, global health and population and health outcomes research. 1. Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on technical administration of systems under their areas of specialty through the proactive management of system performance, integrity, availability, and security.
2. Utilize Linux experience with opportunity to grow and expand on Linux skills.
3. Ensure reliability of services and applications, and assist in developing and implementing standards for system maintenance, configuration and availability.
4. Ensure all production systems have been implemented following PHRI policies and procedures and meet appropriate regulatory requirements.
5. Support testing and validation efforts to ensure systems, services, and applications related to their area of responsibility are fit for intended use.
6. Write Job Aids, Work Instructions, SOPs and any other necessary documentation as required.
7. Analyze captured metrics to identify any performance, reliability or security issues and any such issues to Senior System Administrator.
8. Produce s that detail the short and long term efficiency and effectiveness of systems and applications applicable to their area of specialty.
9. Monitor, capture and system usage and performance metrics.
10. Ensure timely troubleshooting of system related issues to find and document the root cause.
11. Create remediation plans for system issues and ensure stakeholders are informed appropriately.
Monday to Friday – 37.5 hours/week.
1. Diploma or Associates Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science.
2. Linux experience preferred – We have blended enterprise Microsoft ecosystem with integrated advanced Linux systems for advanced research.
3. Minimum 3 years of technical support experience.
4. A reasonable technical understanding of one to three of the following technical skills is required
a) Virtualization, windows, authentication, communications, storage, data management, backups, networking, UNIX and security.
5. Effective communication skills are required.
6. Critical thinking and analytical skills are required.
