PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER
The Engineering Analysis Department of the Industry Analysis Division of the Missouri Public Service Commission seeks to fill a Professional Engineer position in our Kansas City office to perform analysis related to issues that affect Missouri’s investor-owned utilities and their customers.
This position requires knowledge of the utility industry in areas such as depreciation, generation, transmission, distribution, services, construction, production and/or resource planning and prepares testimony in PSC hearings on associated issues and utility rates. Also serves as an engineering technical resource in engineering areas such as electrical, gas or generation systems or in specific aspects of statistical or production cost modeling. This position also requires the ability to assist in formulating research strategies and selecting and applying the appropriate analytical methods or computer models to provide high quality information to decision makers. A high level of both verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explain and interpret the results of complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences is required.
Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university and 2-4 years of progressive relevant engineering experience, one year of experience in a regulatory, compliance, or utility environment preferred. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri required for the Professional Engineer position. Experience with spreadsheets and word processing is essential. Knowledge of depreciation software is preferred. Other computer simulation and database experience is also preferred. The ability to work well in a team environment is a must. Strong analytical, writing and interpersonal skills and personal computer experience required.
Starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The annual salary range is $65,298 – $70,766 plus benefits. Benefits include 13 paid holidays annually, 10 hours paid sick and vacation time each month, potential telecommuting options, flexible work schedules, physical fitness opportunities, and tuition reimbursement.
The position also offers optional life, medical, dental and vision coverage, and the state employee pension plan.
