Role: Our product suite relies on uniquely integrated hardware and software. We are looking for a versatile and experienced Embedded Firmware and Hardware Engineer to lead our electronics team. The position’s primary responsibility is to design systems, both the hardware and the firmware interface, for various experiments, prototypes, and products. In this role, you will interact with our optical scientists and software engineering team to implement first-in-class designs and integrate your systems into the product suite and software overlays. You will be responsible for maintaining the company’s electronics development process, including MCU interfaces, RF synthesis for laser modulation, magnetic field generation and control, and high-bandwidth servos. You will be a valued contributor to our product strategy and manage junior hardware engineers.

Tasks:

• Design PCB layouts and revise existing designs; working with electrical, optical, and mechanical hardware engineers to define and implement PCB routing and manufacturability constraints.
• Generate the engineering build documentation (schematic capture, assembly drawings, and manufacturing packages) required for fabrication.
• Develop embedded firmware based on product requirements, capabilities, and specifications. Improve and maintain embedded firmware on existing products.
• Develop deterministic, reliable, and safe microcontroller code in C/C++ or Rust.
• Debug, test, and optimize hardware and firmware designs on bench, and in real-world conditions.

Base Qualifications:

• Bachelor/Master degree in Embedded Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field, and has 3-5 years of hands-on related hardware experience
• Embedded system development (C/C++, Rust)
• Knowledge in the design of PCB layouts – analog signals, digital circuits, and basic RF; porting evaluation and development boards into custom designs
• Familiarity with circuit analysis, signal simulation, design, evaluation, and characterization, including analog, RF, power management, signals and systems, ADCs, DACs, μMCUs
• Creation and verification of schematic symbols, footprints, and maintenance of ECAD library

Experience:

• Do-er who nurtures ideas and sees them to fruition, from production of underlying hardware architecture to successful firmware interfaces in tandem.
• Prioritization of features, refining scope, and reaching agreements on MVP requirements.
• Proven ability to manually prototype designs and test concepts.
• Experienced with interfacing hardware, microcontrollers, digital controls, and real-time systems.
• Strong collaborative and communication skills, specifically an ability to guide and influence a dynamic start-up environment effectively.
• Dedicated to establishing standards and applying industry best practices and modern design principles for current/future project development and overall hardware toolchain.
• Experienced in managing projects from initial development through manufacturing and scale-up (ECAD DRC, DFM & DFA).
• History of maintaining documentation for core engineering processes and procedures.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $125,000.00 – $175,000.00 per year
