Lattice Educational Services Hiring for Special Education Teacher Full Time

Lattice Educational Services, located in Santa Rosa, offers a variety of educational and behavioral services to students, ages 5 to 22, with moderate to severe developmental disabilities. Among the services offered include a Special Day Class program along with other support services. All services offered take place in a highly structured and individualized setting.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.

Schedule: Exempt, Salaried, 40 hours/week (Monday-Friday). 7:45am-4:15pm. Full time based on school calendar.

Summary of Position

Under the direction of the Director, a Special Day Class (SDC) Teacher at Lattice Educational Services is responsible for the development, implementation and documentation of all aspects of the classroom program including coordinating his/her instructional assistants to provide instruction to each student to successfully meet their IEP goals and objectives.

Essential Functions

• Provide day-to-day supervision of instructional assistants;
• Coordinate daily student groupings and staffing assignments; prepare daily activity schedules; work directly with students in their educational and behavioral programs with the objective to encourage personal growth and progress in the areas of behavior, functional academics, adaptive daily living skills, communication skills and vocational training;
• Design and implement program recommendations and improvements; communicate and provide trainings regarding changes to instructional assistants;
• Assist in creating staff development training programs and implement staff training including training instructional assistants and support staff on individual students and their programs;
• Coordinate with support staff to develop individual student behavior intervention plans, communication goals, and occupational therapy goals; review plan/goals on a regular basis and update, as needed;
• Prepare educational materials for new students and assess present levels of performance; meet with educational personnel at student’s prior placement and student’s parent(s) and/or caregiver(s); do site visit at student’s prior placement, as appropriate;
• Review data on a regular basis and update as needed; with support from staff, design educational components of program;
• Ability to manage behavior and physically intervene assaultive/aggressive children and young adults within Pro-Act guidelines;
• Administer medication to students as needed;
• Follow students’ health care plan and meet their medical needs;
• Maintain organized education records; complete progress s;
• Complete IEP paperwork and submit 1 week prior to IEP; meet with parents/caregivers and Lattice support staff prior to IEP; prepare work samples, pictures, and slides to present at IEP;
• Purchase perishables for program; coordinate purchase of non-perishables for program with administration; maintain records of program expenditures; prepare program budget, as appropriate;
• Develop, encourage and maintain effective professional working relationships, with parents, caregivers, Lattice staff, administration and other agency personnel;
• Attend meetings with the Executive Director and Director of School Services; attend monthly teachers’ meetings;
• Ensure a safe and healthful environment for all students, adhering to all applicable laws, codes and regulations including policies and procedures of Lattice Educational Services;
• Regular attendance;

Education/Experience

• B.A./B.S. in Education or Special Education or applicable field;
• Current California teaching credential or currently enrolled in a credential program;

Miscellaneous Requirements

• Current CPR and First Aid Certification (may be completed upon hire);
• Must have valid California Driver’s License;
• Prior to beginning employment, must be able to pass a FBI/Department of Justice fingerprint background check, as well as clear pre-employment physical and TB screening;
• Knowledge of and sensitivity to culturally diverse groups and persons with special needs;
• Interest in and knowledge of the goals of a special needs school;
• May include occasional weekends and evenings;
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $39.75 – $42.00 per hour
