St Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre of Sudbury Hiring for Recreation Therapist Full Time

RECREATION THERAPIST

TEMPORARY FULL TIME – 18 months (with possibility of extension)

Wage rate: $27.52 – $32.87, commensurate with experience

The primary goal of the Recreation Therapist is to ensure our patients are receiving high quality, person-centered care that aligns with our values of Dignity, Service, Excellence and Integrity. Our Recreation Therapists assess patients’ recreational needs and develop client-centered group and individual programming in the areas of diversional activity, therapeutic adaptations, leisure education, and community linkage/integration, with the goal of enabling patients to achieve quality of life and optimal health through meaningful participation in recreation and leisure. Recreation Therapists work as part of an interprofessional team to support slow-paced rehabilitation programming and act as consultants to other disciplines.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES INCLUDE:

• Determining patients’ levels of safety, physical functioning, cognitive abilities, emotional skills, social functioning and leisure skills as they apply to leisure opportunities
• Developing, implementing and managing group and individual recreation therapy activities and special events
• Reinforcing healthy lifestyle and behaviours to support wellbeing and functioning
• Advising on equipment adaptations, memory strategies, virtual rehabilitation, and other tools
• Charting progress, tracking milestones, and providing evaluations

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Degree/Diploma in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Administration or related post-secondary program
• Demonstrated knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles, techniques and methods and their application to the population being served
• GPA training and registration with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) preferred
• At least two years of experience in a hospital setting in complex continuing care, geriatrics and rehabilitation
• Experience in geriatrics and slow-paced rehabilitation preferred
• COVID Vaccination required to work in our facility (2 Doses)
