Administer the Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund (WCTF), which invests in demand-driven programs designed by industry sector partnerships that train and place unemployed and underemployed job seekers.

Administer the Workforce Training Fund (WTFP), a trust that awards $20 million in incumbent worker training grants to companies annually;

Administer YouthWorks, Massachusetts subsidized youth employment program;

Implement and sell Signal Success, our soft skills and employability curriculum;

Coordinate education and workforce activities for the states juvenile justice system;

Program: Among the programs administered by Commonwealth Corporation is the DYS Initiative. In partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services (DYS, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts juvenile justice system), CommCorp manages high-quality employability and arts programming and services to youth committed to the juvenile justice system across the state of Massachusetts. The mission of the DYS Initiative is to provide youth with access and opportunity to a continuum of options and opportunities that will give them the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to build a better future.

As part of the DYS Skill Up Initiative, Commonwealth Corporation manages a small silk screen company called Exclusive Tees which operates at a Department of Youth Services facility in Springfield. Exclusive Tees employs youth to work as a team to fulfill custom orders for the public, allowing them to gain workplace skills, build self-confidence, and set goals for success in transitioning into mainstream employment.

Position Description: The Silk Screen Instructor provides direct silk screen training and coaching to youth program employees, ages 16-22, and manages a safe, clean, organized, and well-running shop.

Key Responsibilities

Provide direct silk screen training and mentor/coach good work ethic to youth, including providing regular formalized feedback to youth/evaluation

Manage customer order fulfillment and communicate and collaborate with the Sr. Program Manager and Program Coordinator to ensure order quality and timeliness.

Management of all shop operations, including organization and providing oversight of technical aspects, basic maintenance, and recommendations for the acquisition, repair and/or replacement of equipment and materials

Work closely with facility staff to assure safety and security procedures are followed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Extensive experience in silk screening, specifically including professional exposure and reclaiming, printing on a six station manual printer, coating screens with emulsion, and heat press

Ability to instruct silk screen beginners and continue skill development in regards to burning, registration, printing, and reclaiming quality

Excellent organizational and communication skills, including order fulfillment with the use of email, spreadsheets, and work orders

Ability to think quickly and utilize problem solving skills

Attention to detail

Ability to communicate and work with a diverse group of individuals

Experience with basic design for silk screening on Adobe Illustrator and printing using AccuRIP software a plus
