Senior Design Engineer – Oswestry
J Murphy and Sons Ltd are currently recruiting for a Senior Design Engineer to join our award-winning team. The Senior Design Engineer will provide, or to lead a team providing safe, practical and economic designs for internal clients to a high standard of professional competence and in compliance with Company procedures.

What you will be doing:
* Represent the design department, when necessary, at internal and external meetings, Manage the interface with external or in house design teams on behalf of the Design Manager.
* Complete TW’s alerts / guidance / best practice alerts on items specific for the project
* Chair TW forums / Meetings with select area heads
* Complete spot checks on installed TW’s on site.
* Ensure that chargeable work is identified and evaluated including the preparation of adequate records of time spent.
* Ensure that feedback on design work is collated and saved in accordance with procedure.
* Prepare conceptual designs from with a view to the preparation of safe, practical, and economic designs in accordance with current legislation.
* Prepare detailed designs in accordance with current standards and codes including calculations, design risk assessments and sufficiently detailed sketches for the preparation of working drawings.
* Complete TW audits / Inspections.
* Summarise quantities relating to design tasks for pricing purposes.
* Maintain responsibility for the storage, filing and archiving of documents relevant to your design tasks.Â
* Provide advice and guidance on design and operational issues.
* Limited responsibility for preparation of design tenders and subcontracts.Â
* Administration and monitoring of Change Controls.
* Implementation of Temporary Works requirements and associated registers.
* Produce design or checking services to the requisite standards on behalf of the Company.
Who are we looking for?
* Degree qualified in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
* Preferred experience in Water, Rail, Power or Oil & Gas infrastructure projects.
* Experience within Temporary or Permanent design works, advantage if experienced in both.
* Experience of interfacing with clients & developing solutions
* Experience of interfacing with clients, coordinating & developing solutions
* Technical report writing skills suitable for submission to stakeholders and government bodies
* FEED experience associated with the planning stages of infrastructure projects
