Princeton University Hiring for Primate Clinical Veterinarian at New Jersey, United States Full Time

Princeton University’s Nonhuman Primate
Research Program (NRP) is seeking a full-time NHP clinical
veterinarian for their expanding program. The primary purpose of
this position is to provide veterinary clinical and surgical
support for macaques and marmosets used in neuroscience under the
general direction of the NRP Attending Veterinarian.

Responsibilities

This position provides primary clinical care of NHPs used for
research and breeding at Princeton University, including general
veterinary care, management of sick cases, surgical support, and
oversight of welfare and behavior. The position requires strong
clinical and surgical veterinary skills, the ability to maintain
clinical records and databases, computer literacy, strong
organizational skills, and excellent interpersonal skills. The
position requires close collaboration with the research labs, and
may offer research opportunities if the candidate so desires.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

• Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from a College of Veterinary
  Medicine that is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical
  Association or has a certificate issued by the American Veterinary
  Medical Association’s Education Commission for Foreign Veterinary
  Graduates), and a license to practice veterinary medicine in at
  least one state.
• The ability to obtain a license to practice in the state of New
  Jersey and national USDA accreditation.
• A minimum of two (2) years of clinical, surgical, and
  anesthesia experience with laboratory nonhuman primates and/or
  completion of an accredited laboratory animal medicine
  residency.
• Excellent and working knowledge of standards, regulations,
  policies and guidelines associated with performing research using
  NHP including the Animal Welfare Act and Regulations, the Guide for
  the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and Public Health Services
  Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in use of computers including use of word
  processing, spreadsheets, database software and internet
  usage.
• Demonstrated capacity to work well independently and in
  collaboration with veterinary care and research staff.
• Strong preference will be given to candidates with a strong
  background in nonhuman primate clinical and surgical medicine,
  particularly those with experience with NHPs used in
  neuroscience.
• Ability to work after-hours, nights, weekends, and emergency
  shifts as needed to perform responsibilities.

DESIRED (BUT NOT REQUIRED):

• Board certification in Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM).
• Experience interacting with regulatory agencies during
  inspection, site visit, or audit including USDA, AAALAC, and
  OLAW
• Evidence of commitment to continuing education and continuous
  improvement of clinical, surgical, or anesthesia skill sets
• Research surgical and imaging (MRI, CT) experience.
• Teaching experience both in a classroom setting and with
  individuals.
• Supervisory experience.
• Management of NHP colonies used in neuroscience research.
