Calibre Search Looking for Assistant Highway Engineer at Birmingham, West Midlands Full Time

One of the Largest Transportation consultancies in the UK are looking for an Assistant Highways Engineer to join their Midlands team, you will be given the opportunity to work on some of the most nationally significant in the UK including HS2 Phase 2A and the A14 £1.5 billion upgrade with National Highways.

Their office locations are Birmingham, Derby and Nottingham and you can work from any of them twice a week and the rest from home to suit your work life balance. When working a as an Assistant Highways Engineer in this consultancy you will be part of a team that are working on a range of highways projects within major frameworks with National Highways, major D&B contractors and a huge amount of local authority major projects.

The main part of your role as an Assistant Highways Engineer will to be focussed on detailed design of these major projects, working daily with software’s such as Civil 3D or OpenRoads and the design of Alignments, Link Roads and Junctions will make up the bulk of your role. You will also be liaising with other members of the team across multiple disciplines to bring these projects together, ready for the Senior engineers to deliver them to the end client.
This role can offer fantastic training and mentoring towards your chartership with either the ICE or CIHT. The training in detailed design you will receive is almost unrivalled and it’s a huge opportunity for any engineer with 1 or 2 years graduate experience to now specialise in detailed design of major highways schemes.

Assistant Highways Engineer Responsibilities

• Supporting the Project Team in designing highway schemes.
• Preparing scheme drawings, from feasibility design through to detailed design.
• Preparing or checking horizontal and vertical alignments in 3D models.
• Ensuring tasks are carried out within agreed timescales and budgets.
• Co-ordinating the highway design process and integrating with other design disciplines within a multi-disciplinary team.
• Working alongside Clients and stakeholders on technical aspects of projects.
• Keeping up-to-date with current methods and design guidelines.

Assistant Highways Engineer Requirements

• A degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
• Appropriate previous experience of working in this field.
• Ability to act on own initiative and operate in a proactive way.
• Ability to work collaboratively and integrate into multi-disciplinary teams or work independently.
• Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and preferably some knowledge of Civil 3D or Openroads.
• Experienced in preparing drawings and reports.
• Working towards or have the aim to work towards professional qualifications.
