BBC Hiring for Software Engineer – Internal Systems Job at London, England Full Time

Corporate Digital & Applications (CDA) is a high-performing department that builds internal applications to help BBC Staff with their work. We look after the BBC’s intranet, internal mobile applications, public-facing corporate sites, and dozens of internal bespoke web applications. Almost every person in the BBC uses at least one of our systems most weeks, and our audience-facing sites receive millions of views from the public every month.

We have a modern technology stack and use a range of AWS technologies such as Lambda, OpenSearch, S3, and Aurora. We mainly build services using JavaScript/TypeScript, with our frontends typically being React and our primary API being serverless GraphQL.

We’re looking for someone who has a particular interest in backend development, but there will be plenty of opportunities to contribute across the technology stack.

This is a great opportunity to develop your skills whilst working on some interesting and challenging problems. We are a very supportive team and have a genuine interest in helping our engineers grow, you’ll be encouraged to take personal development time every week to give you the space to learn something new and develop your skills.

Main Responsibilities

• Collaborate effectively to design, develop, test and release well engineered backend services
• Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement
• Effectively participate in the team’s software development methodologies, such as pairing, code reviews, agile planning and continuous delivery
• Write appropriate automated tests to ensure code-quality
• Actively help troubleshoot and resolve issues
• Learn new technologies and keep abreast of existing technologies

Are you the right candidate?

• Experience in one or more modern programming languages and/or frameworks
• Experience with one or more cloud service provider, such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform
• Experience of database design and use in software applications
• A growth mindset, willingness to learn and share knowledge
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
