Job Opportunity

The role is permanent offering a base salary of upto £60,000 (depending on experience) and an annual bonus of up to 5% based on personal and company objectives.

Role Summary

The Materials & Processes Engineering team support all areas of the business on NPI (New Product Introduction), serial production and R&D programmes. In this role you will be working with both the design and production sides of the business to advise on materials selection, develop new manufacturing methods and troubleshoot existing processes.

Reporting to the company’s Head of Chief Engineering you will scope projects, generate plans, carry out investigative work and report your findings. You will also be involved in the scoping and execution of research & development activities.

The Chief M&P Engineer leads the M&P team, providing technical leadership and mentoring less experienced engineers. They are capable of working independently, utilising their experience and expertise to implement robust long term solutions and anticipate technical risks.

Role Specific

• Provide leadership to the M&P team and act as a primary point of contact for materials related queries across the business.

• Evaluate materials and processing methods, provide technical direction to design and project teams where required. Provide support for product bids and new programmes.
• Use materials and processing expertise to develop solutions across composite, metallic and assembly functions.
• Lead projects through the NPI tollgate process, developing technologies/products through the Technology and Manufacturing Readiness Levels (TRLs/MRLs).
• Create and approve engineering specifications for materials and manufacturing processes.

Essential Requirements

• Ideally degree in a relevant subject, e.g. Materials Science, Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, Chemistry etc. (equivalent technical experience also considered) – however, significant industry experience with other qualifications other than a degree may be considered.
• Proven experience in composite material processing (e.g. hand lay-up of prepreg, automated lay-up, resin infusion).
• Experience of developing new processes/technologies.
• Experience within a regulated manufacturing environment, e.g. aviation or automotive industries.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
