Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for Assistant Director for
Housing position. The Assistant Director for Housing position is a
full-time, year-round position, starting at $61,545 – commensurate
with experience. Given Amherst’s distinction as one of the most
diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful
candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to
and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

Reporting to the Director of Housing & Operations, and as a
member of the Office of Community Living, the Assistant Director
focuses on the development and facilitation of housing processes
impacting our highly diverse community of residential students. The
Assistant Director is responsible for developing selection and
placement processes that are transparent to students while
providing entry points to referral and support. The Assistant
Director is a champion for bridging the importance of where
students live as it relates to their interests, identities,
well-being, and overall campus experience.

The Assistant Director navigates the intricacies associated with 34
residence halls and their respective communities. The Assistant
Director designs both the general housing selection process as well
as the subprocesses of Theme Community, Language, Suite, and
Accommodation housing processes. All members of the Office of
Community Living must share a commitment to centering the diverse
intersectional identities and experiences of the student body. The
Assistant Director of Housing has complementary functionality with
the Assistant Director of Operations, allowing for cross-training
and support throughout the academic year.

The Assistant Director assesses student housing trends, benchmarks
information against peer institutions, and maintains reports on
numbers and housing data to provide advice on current
analytics.

Summary of Responsibilities

Housing Assignments

• Manage all housing-related technology including the housing
  “Portal X”, StarRez Admin, and mobile app.
• Manage training of colleagues and develop reporting as needed
  to streamline practices and communications within the team.
• Update and maintain comprehensive web presence as it relates to
  housing processes.
• Ensure data integration with Workday, CSGold, and other systems
  across the College.
• Design, facilitate, communicate, and evaluate the academic year
  Housing Selection Process, and the Spring-Only Housing Selection
  Process.
  • Assign readmitted students to housing throughout summer,
    including Spring Waitlisted students.
  • Collaborate with the Community Living Team in support of Theme
    and Language Housing Processes.
  • Facilitate the Suites and Triples Selection Process.
  • Facilitate the room change process in partnership with
    Community Living staff throughout the Fall Semester.
  • Partner with Community Living staff in support of student staff
    assignments
• Facilitate new student housing assignments, including
  gender-inclusive practices.
• Facilitate Summer and Winter Housing placement processes.
• Design and improve new and existing processes and systems with
  attention to centering students’ intersecting identities and
  diverse needs.
• Collaborate with the Director to manage housing overflow and
  room configurations in order to maximize occupancy as needed.
• Coordinate housing-related approved accommodations by the
  Office of Accessibility Services.
• Collaborate with colleagues in the Office of Identity and
  Cultural Resources, Health Services, Dining Services, and Community
  Living to support students with non-ADA-related housing needs and
  requests.
• Collect and present housing occupancy figures and
  manage/respond to all reporting mechanisms (email, web forms,
  texting platform, etc .).
• Ensure consistent and accurate data integrity in StarRez
  related to housing inventory and student assignments and regularly
  share rosters with appropriate campus partners.

Operations

• Support the Assistant Director of Operations in room condition
  reporting, as well as end-of-term hall and room damage billing
  processes.
• Support the training of a diverse group of student staff in
  their roles around housing, storage, move-in/out procedures, room
  change tracking, and Community Living Window services.
• Integrate key protocols into housing practices.
• Assist with the logistics around off-campus storage services
  during opening and closing periods.

Student Affairs Generalist

• Serve on the Student Affairs second-tier administrator on-call
  rotation.
• Submit annual reports to the Director each year outlining
  goals, progress, assessment, and developing opportunities.
• Participate in a wide range of discussions regarding strategic
  planning for the office and in conjunction with Student Affairs
  more broadly.
• Serve on campus-wide committees as deemed necessary by the
  Director.

Qualifications

Required:

• Master’s degree in Business, Higher Education, Student
  Development, Student Personnel, or a related field.
• 2-3 years of experience in college residential living
  environments
• Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, time
  management, and organizational skills
• Working knowledge of student development theory
• Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution and learning
  outcomes
• Prior experience with computer software including Microsoft
  Excel, Google’s productivity tools, and housing management
  software
• Demonstrated experience with data management, reconciliation,
  and security
• Commitment to and demonstrated experience working with a
  diverse community

Preferred:

• 2-3 years previous experience working with StarRez and web
  design
