About the Role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to work in the Landing Experience Team at Vrbo. You will work in a fast-paced Agile environment, leading and managing engineering teams responsible for building and maintaining our high-availability and high-transactional Landing Pages, such as Homepage and Destination Landing Pages, as well as the ecosystem that programmatically generates and publishes these webpages.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will be part of a multi-functional team of Product Managers, TPMs, Engineering Managers and Software Engineers based in London and Madrid. We believe in building high-quality software and care about availability, scalability and systems resiliency. Our tech stack consists mostly of Kotlin and Scala microservices, Cassandra, Kafka, NodeJS and React.

Responsibilities

• You will lead a team of around 8-10 engineers supporting, coaching and developing them through their careers
• You will meet individually for regular 1:1s to provide continuous feedback, support goal development, find opportunities for growth and assess individual and team-based performance
• You will take accountability for delivery across your squad(s), and work closely with the Technical Leads and Product Managers to help prioritise and evolve a workable technical solution into a finished product
• You will have experience in software engineering best practices and advocate for operational excellence through coding standards, code reviews, performance optimisations, build processes, establishing SLAs, writing documentation and testing
• You will lead in creating and maintaining a positive and inclusive culture, ensuring strong engagement and motivation
• You have excellent written and verbal communication skills
• You will retain and hire exceptional engineering talent based on the business priorities and impact
• You will have experience in collaborating with other technical teams, senior leaders, product and marketing stakeholders to help define product strategies, gather technical requirements, identify dependencies and risks

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum of 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Minimum of 2+ years leading a team of engineers in a professional software development environment
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent related field
• An established People Leader who leads a globally distributed software engineering team
• Previous hands-on experience as a technical leader with a strong and proven background developing consumer-facing web/native applications using any of the following Java/Kotlin, Swift, NodeJS, React etc.
• Experience in using agile methodologies (Kanban, Scrum, etc.
