Senior Geotechnical Engineer

An established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their growing Wigan office. This is a design-focused role, ideal for someone with 5-7 years’ UK consultancy experience looking to take ownership of technically challenging projects and progress towards principal level.
The Role
You will play a key role in delivering geotechnical design solutions across a range of infrastructure and development projects, working from concept through to detailed design.
Key responsibilities:
* Undertake geotechnical design including foundations, retaining walls, slopes, and earthworks
* Interpret ground investigation data and develop ground models
* Produce and review design calculations in line with Eurocodes and UK standards
* Prepare technical reports, specifications, and design documentation
* Liaise with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
* Support and mentor junior engineers
* Contribute to project planning and delivery
Requirements
* Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Engineering Geology
* 5-7 years’ experience in a geotechnical design role (consultancy preferred)
* Strong understanding of UK standards and Eurocodes
* Experience with design software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or similar
* Proven experience in foundation design, retaining structures, and slope stability
* Strong communication and report writing skills
Desirable
* Working towards Chartership (ICE, GeolSoc or similar)
* Experience on infrastructure or large-scale development projects
