The Program Manager for Leadership Studies and Development focuses on academic and co-curricular leadership education initiatives affiliated with the Leadership and Community Service-Learning office within the Adele H. Stamp Student Union – Center for Campus Life. This includes collaboration with 1) the Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education (CHSE) in the College of Education on leadership studies courses and programs, and 2) co-curricular leadership development initiatives under the Maryland Leadership Education and Development (MLEAD) program area within the LCSL portfolio. Leadership Studies includes a 15-credit Minor, 21-credit Certificate and 30+ course sections serving 500+ students annually. The Maryland Leadership Education and Development (MLEAD) initiative includes 15+ co-curricular leadership development programs serving 600+ student participants annually. Utilizing a critical theory approach to the study and development of student leadership, this role develops, implements, and advances leadership learning through a variety of contexts and learning environments. The program manager integrates co-curricular and academic leadership offerings to maximize students’ leadership education and development. This position supervises one professional staff member and approximately two graduate teaching assistants.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel/Student Affairs, Leadership Studies, or related field
• 3-4 years of full-time professional experience or equivalent in leadership education (or related field), including co-curricular and/or academic programs in a college or university setting
• Demonstrated capacity to navigate academic systems and processes
• Demonstrated experience in mentor, advisor, and/or supervisory roles
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion in action
• Demonstrated knowledge of leadership studies and student development, scholarship of teaching and learning, pedagogical approaches to teaching leadership, program administration and assessment best practices, and curriculum design
• Demonstrated effectiveness in working with college students, colleagues, and community constituents
• Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferences: 

• Doctoral degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel/Student Affairs, Leadership Studies, or related field
• 4+ years of full-time experience preferred
• Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning innovation, curriculum development, student development, critical pedagogy, and community-based learning
• Demonstrated proficiency in navigating and managing academic systems and processes
• Demonstrated experience supervising graduate student and full-time staff
• Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to community engagement, social justice, and inclusion; solid understanding of cultural responsiveness and critical theory

Physical Demands: 

Work takes place in both an office environment and in on-campus buildings; will require ability to travel throughout campus (or at times further travel may be required). There may be occasions when the incumbent will need to work outside their normal work shift to accommodate other shifts that exist in the organization for purposes of meetings, training, etc.
