Position Overview

The role of the ABE/GED Instructor is to develop and implement a best-practice based curriculum rooted in College and Career Readiness Standards. ABE Instructors teach students in the areas of math, science, writing, reading and social studies. The Instructor will assess students in order to monitor progress. The Instructor will create a learning environment that builds the life skills adult students will need to reach their potential as employees

Essential Job Functions

• Prepare and deliver ABE/GED curriculum in classroom setting. Lessons must address the core subject areas of math, science, social studies, reading and writing.
• Structure the classroom environment to build skills students need to achieve real-life goals including getting or keeping employment, passing a high school equivalency test, or transition post-secondary education.
• Attend teachers meetings and professional development as approved by supervisor.
• Submit course syllabus, weekly lesson plans and key student data, including attendance, goal attainment, and barriers to participation.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Non-essential Job Functions – hours 6-8:30pm includes prep time and professional development

Support DCLC special events.

Requirements

Minimum bachelor’s degree and 2 years of teaching experience.

Other Skills/Abilities

• Ability to support students in connecting to support service.
