About the role
In this role as the Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for coordinating compliance reporting and assisting with statutory reporting. The role ensures that the general ledger structure is valid and able to support organisational growth, project reporting, asset handover process and grant acquittals. This is a multi-skilled position that contributes to the operational success of Financial Reporting.

Key responsibilities include:

• To provide integrity of the general ledger structure and control of organisations operating statement, cash flow, equity and balance sheet.
• Provide support to creating accounting segments and mapping of these within the Oracle Financial system.
• Support and facilitate external and internal audit process, completion of accounting treatment position papers and statutory reporting.
• Responsible for compliance reporting for City and Library Corporation – Tax Reports, ABS, GST, TPAR, FBT
• Ensure Oracle sub-ledger (AP, Projects, Cash management) are accurately included in Oracle general ledger and reconciliation completed
• Ensure general ledger interface (Empower/DCX/Pathway) transactions are completed on timely basis and reconciliation completed.
• Coordinating month-end process, follow-up actions based on exception reports, control and escalation of outstanding balance sheet accounts and to ensure variances are resolved and accounted for correctly.
• To apply analytical skills and knowledge to investigate and resolve the issues identified in the general ledger and sub ledger
• To investigate and implement changes to Council’s reporting that are required from Legislation, Compliance Frameworks or Accounting Standards. This also includes the preparation of internal accounting position papers.

About you
The ideal candidate for this role will have sound experience in financial management and:

• Relevant tertiary qualification in a commerce, accounting or finance discipline
• Chartered Accountant or Certified Practicing Accountant Membership
• Sound understanding and proficient in the use of financial software systems (e.g., Oracle Financials).
• Proven experience in medium to large financial systems, reporting and reconciliations.
• Able to demonstrate a comprehensive accounting knowledge and current compliance and statutory reporting obligations.
• Well developed, professional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience to conduct research into complex issues and to identify deliverable solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively plan and manage own time to achieve targets and to contribute to a positive team environment.
• Experience in a government environment is desirable.
