Santa Barbara Charter School is looking for a PE specialist who can work
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 12:45pm-3:15 pm (2.5 hours daily, 7.5 hours weekly)
Two PE classes per day, also offer activities to students during PM recess. Additional hours possible with an after school sports program. www.sbcharter.org
Candidates must have the ability to get a CA Emergency Teaching Credential (BA/BS and pass the CBEST test) and pass a background check.

Physical Education provides the opportunity to teach students about: Movement, Sportsmanship, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Cooperation, and Game Strategy. Engaging students in a variety of physical activities, that include team building and team sports, will foster student’s self-esteem in finding lifelong ways to maintain physical fitness.
Physical fitness allows students to discover the connection between physical and mental well being. It can help encourage the development of positive body image. Students can challenge themselves to try new things.

The five overarching model content standards for elementary and middle school students are as follows:
Overarching Standard 1: Students demonstrate the motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
Overarching Standard 2: Students demonstrate knowledge of movement concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.
Overarching Standard 3: Students assess and maintain a level of physical fitness to improve health and performance.
Overarching Standard 4: Students demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles, and strategies to improve health and performance.

Basic PE Schedule per class session (current)
Lesson Structure 45 minutes (3rd-6th Grade)
Warm-up/Stretches: 5 minutes
Goal Work/ “Burn-It to Earn-It”: 5-10 minutes
Skill Building: 10 minutes
Main Activity: 20-25 minutes
