Net Zero Ventures exists to increase and accelerate the impact of British Gas in the energy transition in UK homes. Centrica is uniquely placed to be the leading business driving the energy transition across the UK housing stock.
Reporting directly to the CFO for British Gas Services & Solutions, and dotted line into the NZ Venture MD, the Finance Director is a critical part of the Executive team, responsible for the financial health of the business. As the right hand to the MD for Net Zero Ventures, the Finance Director will balance providing both path-clearing and with a willingness to hold the other members of the Executive team to account. This role is critical in ensuring that our ability to operate at pace is realised.
In your new role you will have the following key accountabilities:
Develop a rapid understanding of the business, its customers, competitors, market opportunities and challenges
As part of the Net Zero Ventures LT, and wider British Gas Services Finance team, actively participate in the development of the growth strategy and leadership of the total business
Provide enthusiastic energy, leadership and motivation to the Net Zero Ventures team
Build and maintain the investment case for Net Zero Ventures
Deliver the Financial and Strategic plans for the business
Lead the financial management of the business, ensuring risks are mitigated, appropriate controls in place and opportunities capitalised
Establish management disciplines and processes with collaboration to analyse performance vs. plan and implement remedial actions
Support and challenge the MD and team on the performance of the business
Identify and develop margin and cost improvement opportunities
Support major initiatives including strategy, restructures and acquisitions
Lead a high-performing Finance function
Work Experience & Functional/Technical Skills
Inclusive with a proven track record operating at both the strategic and operational level to deliver business results
Experience of setting a clear vision, collaborating and motivating others to deliver exceptional results
Experience of building, developing trust, inspiring and coaching teams
An understanding of how to take quantified risk in a business where speed to market is vital
Proven experience in contributing to the development of the overall business strategy and vision, and influencing strategic decisions at board level which have business-wide implications.
Proven capability in leading & supporting virtual, diverse teams being able to influence at pace and remotely
Excellent at building internal and external relationships
Qualified accountant with experience in financial control, performance reporting and analysis
Extensive Finance Partnering experience
Commercial contract bidding and M&A experience advantageous
Excellent analytically
Highly commercial
Education and Certifications
Hold an accountancy qualification as ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
Competencies
