Position Summary

Menlo seeks an outstanding teacher for a full-time open rank position in Communication beginning August 2023. A PhD (completion by June 2022) in Communication or a related field is preferred, but not required. All specialties are welcome. We are particularly interested in a candidate with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. A successful candidate should also have an active research program and a record of published scholarship appropriate to the desired rank.

Potential areas of expertise include business communication, media & society, cultural expression in media, or public speaking. Menlo College is primarily an undergraduate business college; 10-15% of students major in Psychology. Preference will be given to candidates able to offer courses currently offered; the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to add new courses to the catalog as appropriate to their area of expertise.

Responsibilities

The position requires undergraduate teaching, mentoring and advising undergraduate students, and active ongoing engagement in shared governance and other service assignments at the college level including assessment of learning. The position reports directly to the Dean of Arts & Sciences.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have an earned doctorate in Communication or in a related field from a reputable university in hand prior to the start of the fall 2023 semester (August 2023). Preference will be given to candidates with a strong record of effective undergraduate teaching as the instructor of record. Candidates must be able and qualified to teach classes at the undergraduate level in Mass Communication or Business Communication. They must also possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to work in a collaborative and collegial environment.

Rank and salary

Open rank. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
