Main purpose of the role

To provide accurate and timely reporting for all finance clients for management and statutory purposes, in line with current policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

• To draft pension scheme financial statements and annual reports in accordance with agreed legislation and best practice, in liaison with clients and their professional advisers.
• To reconcile investment transactions and prepare all the necessary working papers and reconciliations of the financial statements
• To prepare periodic financial reports and financial management information for clients.
• To lead the audit process, liaising closely and effectively with the external auditors and to agreed timetables.
• To provide other reporting as required (for example company auditors and actuarial requests).
• To complete self-assessment returns, prepare ONS returns, within statutory deadlines.
• To support assistant client accountants.
• Knowledge of policies and process of ISO 27001 and where they can be accessed and followed.
• Maintain an up to date working knowledge of client requirements through proactive self-learning.
• Share skills and experiences with team members, build relationships with clients as their dedicated Pension Accountant.
• Contributes to continuous improvement processes in order to enhance the quality of service provided.
• Perform other duties and ad hoc projects as assigned by the Client Finance and Assurance Manager.

Professional qualities

Essential

• Computer literate. Experienced in the use of MS Office.
• ACA, CIMA, ACCA qualified, for a minimum period of 2 years.
• Direct experience of accounting for UK occupational pension schemes.
• Strong financial accounting skills and evidence of producing and reporting on year end and management accounts up to Board level.
• Experience of liaising with auditors with the successful completion of an audit process.
• Experience of working in a customer/client focused organisation.
• Advanced skills in use of finance-based computer systems and software.
• Demonstrable interpersonal skills.

Desirable

• PMI Qualified (or studying).
• Balance of small and large business experience/expertise.
• Understanding of investment strategies used by UK occupational pension schemes.
• Understanding and experience of accounting for and the valuation of investment markets and differing asset classes including Swaps and other derivatives.
