High Hopes Development Center Hiring for Director of Education at Franklin, TN Full Time

The Director of Education leads all educational initiatives, implements rigorous programming, ensures building safety, and effectively staffs twelve (12) classrooms, six months through kindergarten, for the early childhood program consisting of both typically developing (60%) and children with special needs (40%). Ensures compliance with all Department of Education (DOE) requirements. Communicates effectively with students, teachers, parents, and therapists. Collaborates with colleagues to develop programs and enhance learning environments that inspire children to become lifelong learners. Coaches performance as needed, recognizing and leveraging strengths and managing weaknesses of individuals. Fosters a positive school environment for children, families, and staff.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, or Educational Leadership with 3+ years of education experience
• Proven leadership responsibilities, including hiring, coaching performance, and training adults
• Exposure and understanding of curriculum design and instruction.
• Energetic, confident, self-motivated individual
• Experience with young children with and without special needs
• U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the United States
• Hold a valid TN driver’s license
• TN Teaching Certification

Reports to/Directly Supervised by: Executive Director

Classification: Full Time, Exempt

Responsibilities:

Direct Supervision of Education Staff

• Hiring, training, and leading educational staff of approximately 30 teachers and co-teachers
• Conduct performance reviews and help employees develop plans of action to improve performance
• Implement staff development based on DOE requirements, needs assessments, and current trends in education
• Manages and makes recommended changes to curriculum ensuring it meets current state standards
• Work directly with the Department of Education to ensure compliance
• Responsible for new student enrollment and retention.
• Maintain substitute teacher pool and provide coverage when needed
• Interact with customers (children, parents, clinic staff, and other program directors) in a collaborative manner on a daily basis in person, via phone, and electronic communications.

Daily School Operations

• Conduct tours to prospective families, maintain school referral and waiting lists, and enroll new children
• Conduct classroom enrollments-intake packets, teacher conferences, classroom placement, etc.
• Monitor physical environment to ensure DOE standards and safety of all children
• Monitor DOE Teacher/Child Ratio
• Coordinate all special events for school (holidays, graduation, open house, special programming)
• Develop and maintain curriculum
• Monitor transition of children throughout classrooms
• Maintain DOE standards for school and attend all Pertinent DOE trainings
• In partnership with school nurse, monitor medication dispersion and medication log according to DOE/state standards
• Monitor teacher communication to parents
• Ensure daily implementation and execution of lesson plans and rigorous instruction in all classrooms.

Administrative Operations of Education Department

• Complete monthly/annual reports
• Prepare and monitor education budget
• In cooperation with the school nurse, maintain student files including immunizations, according to DOE/State Department Standards
• Maintain school Family Database, including emergency transportation plans, emergency numbers, and allergies
• Manage school inventory

Relationships with Families

• Develop open lines of communication by greeting parents, establishing rapport, and communicating with them regularly.
• Coordinate and implement Individualized Preschool Plan (IPP) and Individualized Kindergarten Plan (IKP) meetings two (2) times per year for children with special needs
• Produce departmental material for newsletter
• Coordinate parent/teacher meetings
• Identify resources for parents
• Maintain school parent handbook
• Implement effective intake meetings

Organizational Responsibilities

• Act as a liaison between High Hopes’ Pediatric Therapy Clinic and Inclusive School
• Schedule and implement team meetings with staff for each student
• Represent High Hopes at community meetings
• Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification and State Licensure
