Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Purpose of the job

The Principal Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for analysing and interpreting accurate geological, geotechnical, laboratory, and geophysical data obtained during onshore and nearshore projects, to enable our clients to make informed decisions during the engineering, design, and construction phases of infrastructure development projects, ultimately reducing project risk and costs. The Principal Geotechnical Engineer is a recognised subject matter expert within their own function and discipline and a contributor to the business line strategy. The role holder will deliver close support to business development teams to ensure that commercially attractive work is won aligned with the business strategy.

Job description 

• Manage and occasionally supervise, the technical aspects of a portfolio of site characterisation projects in accordance with Company procedures and within the billed allowances, ensuring compliance with the specification and delivery of projects to agreed dates. Communicate directly with clients and negotiate changes to ensure requirements are met.

• Provide support, advice, and guidance to technical, commercial, operations and business development teams.

• Preparing and checking geotechnical desk studies, technical advice notes, ground models, permanent and temporary geotechnical designs, calculations and analyses, technical and site drawings, and geotechnical interpretative reports.
• Manage the activities of projects teams with regards to the overall site characterization investigation operations of the Company, other departments and individual projects. 

• Technical direction, mentoring and training of a team of engineers.

• Show and apply true commitment to HSSE Management Systems, policies and standards to encourage and deepen safety standards in all working environments.

• Preparing proposals and tenders and delivery of client presentations. Promote various solutions to clients to develop opportunities and bring business rewards to the company.

The person

• Master’s Degree or equivalent qualification in Earth Sciences, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering.

• 8 – 15 of experience. Previous experience as a Principal Geotechnical Engineer.

• Willingness and ability to travel regularly to site locations across the UK and occasionally overseas.

• Achieved or actively pursuing chartership through an appropriate professional institution.

• UK Driving licence.
