Preschool Director

Qualifications

• A believing and professing Christian.
• A BS/BA degree (preferably in administration) required, MA/MS preferred. In addition, the candidate must possess at least 12 ECE credits.
• Strong organizational and management skills
• A minimum of two years of preschool experience.
• A minimum of two years experience as a director/manager/supervisor.
• Familiar with NAEYC guidelines and accreditation criteria.
• The ability to plan, strategize and carry out responsibilities.
• Able to work well with others and cooperate fully with the school leadership team.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Able to engage as a collaborative partner with the Administration; including the K-5 Director,

Middle School Director, Admissions Director, and others to promote the preschool

and elementary school growth.

• Demonstrate the spirit of service and exceptional leadership.

Specific Responsibilities and Job Duties
Public Relations and Communications

• Demonstrate and communicate in a positive manner regarding the School and Church to

students, parents, school & church employees, church members, and the community.

• Regularly communicate to school parents and congregation members in person and in writing

through email articles in the school newsletter and letters to parents. Use similar means to
communicate school events, changes in schedules, and other pertinent information.

• Respond promptly to parent inquiries and follow up appropriately.
• Assist in maintaining information on the school website.
• Along with the director of admissions, provide tours and information sessions for new and

continuing students and/or parents.

• Prepare monthly reports to be included in the Executive Director’s report to the School Board.
• Serve as the primary representative of preschool in greeting and interacting with parents, children, and the public.
• Assist in the efforts of the administration to gain publicity and increase enrollment.
• Assist the Executive Director and office staff in the preparation of a Parent Handbook and

Staff Handbook each year and provide updates as needed.

• Attend special School events as a Preschool and Elementary School representative.
• Support the efforts of the Parent Association
• Assist in coordinating all special events, including but not limited to: Back to School Night,

Open House, Christmas/Easter/Closing Chapels, assemblies, staff, and student recognition,
Student Council Meetings and Parent Association requests and events.

• Oversee parent/teacher conference schedules and locations.

Recruitment and Supervision of Staff

• Administer personnel policies, procedures, and practices according to the GSLS policy

manual, staff handbook, and acceptable human resource practices adhering to state and
federal regulations.

• Conduct regular staff meetings.
• Address concerns from staff, students, and parents appropriately and in a timely manner.
• Communicate & inspire high standards for teaching and learning.
• Select, induct, support, evaluate, and retain high-quality instructional and support staff.
• Perform regular observations and documentation of staff performance with a final summary

of performance at the end of the agreement period/school year or more frequently if
needed.

• Direct and supervise the activities of the preschool staff.
• Set goals with each teacher at the beginning of the school year; monitor progress.
• Take appropriate steps for documenting, counseling, and evaluating progress when needed.
• Maintain staff records, monitoring credentialing and required continuing education.
• Prepare and maintain an approved list of substitute teachers and extended care personnel, secure substitutes, and add staff as needed.

Curriculum

• Review all curriculum and instructional materials.
• Work with the kindergarten teacher to develop a curriculum that flows from preschool to kindergarten.
• Recommend new materials and programs to the School Board for approval as needed.
• Order curriculum and supplies within budget guidelines, coordinating with other departments and the school office.
• Assist in promoting the development of specific and measurable goals for student

achievement.

• Coordinate the implementation of the new curriculum, programs, and practices as approved by

the School Board.

• Along with the faculty, coordinate arrangements for enrichment instruction.

Office Management

• Ensure all student forms and records are complete and current.
• Ensure all staff/employee forms and records are completed and current.
• Ensure all ELEA, state, and other forms and licenses are completed and renewed.
• Maintain an inventory of all major school equipment and instructional material.
• Recommend repairs, replacements, or additions of school equipment and instructional material, as needed.
• Deliver agreements to preschool staff.

Financial Planning

• Work with the K-5 Director, Middle School Director, Treasurer, and Budget Committee to prepare an annual budget for approval by the School Board

Administration

• Initiate and oversee any and all accreditation processes or renewals.
• Ensure student welfare – handling safety, illness, and discipline issues.
• Oversee the planning and coordination of the extended care summer program.
• Ensure all administrative and staffing needs for the preschool and extended care programs are met, including substitute coverage as needed.
• Participate in weekly chapels as appropriate.
• Procure professional growth opportunities for self and staff.
• Plan special events in cooperation with the staff and School Board.
• Use special talents to enrich the total School program.
• Carry out any other directives of the K-5 Director and School Board.
