Now is a great time to join the BBC News & Weather digital teams. Over the past four years, we have doubled the reach of the News site and apps in both the UK and globally. On an average week, 60% of visitors to BBC online come to News & Weather in the UK, rising to 75% internationally; when big stories hit, we regularly now exceed 100m weekly users.

While we’re a big product, we’re still one-size-fits-all, and in the coming years we must make the leap to a modern, personalised digital service that works for all. We are looking for four business analysts to join our team and help us do this. We will deliver a mix of universal top stories and curated content tailored to different audience needs, with users experiencing a rich combination of news, live and in-depth journalism in text, photos, graphics, video and audio.

What is the role?

Business Analysts in BBC News support and enable continuous delivery through collaboration, strong communication and a structured approach to simplifying problems.

You will collaborate with teams across News and the wider BBC, building effective working relationships and facilitating discovery to capture business and technical requirements, and help drive product decision-making.

You will connect technical delivery and business teams, ensuring the right things are built in the right way at the right time.

We’re looking for a number of business analysts with a range of skills and experiences, to work with front-end, back-end and full-stack teams.

Main Responsibilities

Working in a News product team, you will:

• Translate the product vision and objectives into discovery and development tasks, and fine tune requirements with developers, designers, UX, testers and our editorial team so they’re clear, accurate, actionable and measurable.
• Define, organise and prioritise user stories and acceptance criteria, closely tracking any issues as they arise.
• Engage with business teams and elicit requirements using the most appropriate method, running workshops, hosting interviews or observing existing workflows where necessary.
• You will play a key role in helping the team deliver value quickly, mitigate risk and hit objectives by identifying priorities and planning & managing workload.
• You will work with technical and non-technical teams across News and the wider Product Group, facilitating idea generation, sharing knowledge and building strong working relationships around a shared set of objectives.

Are you the right candidate?

• Experience of agile Business Analysis techniques, defining user stories, writing acceptance criteria, analysing audience and system data, and running requirements workshops.
• Collaborative attitude and experience of helping multi-disciplinary teams to deliver user-focused digital products and services, using Agile methodology.
• A structured and thorough approach, and the ability to simplify complex problems, processes or projects into component parts and be able to explore them systematically.
• Experience of working with data to gather, analyse and report on product performance and inform decision making.
• A self-starter with strong planning and organisational skills, able to juggle multiple priorities and take the appropriate course of action.
• You have experience of working in a digital product team with thorough knowledge of technical product management and development methodologies, underpinned by strong software design principles.
• Comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to gather product requirements, and running discovery sessions with a range of teams and stakeholders.
