Summary:

As OKIN’s Special Education Tutor Specialist, you will provide remote support for grades 4-12 students with special needs or disabilities in subjects such as (Math, Science, Physics, History, and English). You will be the first point of contact for these specific students who have various learner needs and who connect to the Homework Helpline via phone, chat, and video or through Targeted Tutoring services and online tutor sessions.

Responsibilities:

• Exhibit Subject Matter and Pedagogical Expertise by working?specifically?with students with special needs or students with disabilities
• Maintain and update log session details with information such as topics covered,?and progress made
• Tutor students remotely by way of chat, voice, and video??
• Assist students with special needs with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research, and other academic tasks
• Recognize diverse learning styles and preferences,?specifically with students with disabilities.?
• Use active listening strategies to allow tutors to determine individual student needs and assess the pace of tutoring??
• Use a variety of strategies to engage students with special needs at varying learning levels, including questioning strategies and other eLearning strategies, as the primary tutoring method to identify student learning goals and monitor progress??
• Participate in professional development activities to improve tutorial skills and continue to grow cultural competence and reflection skills??
• Utilize feedback and reflection to improve practice??
• Design and implement a variety of virtual mini-lessons to support student learning Be flexible and able to adapt instructional methodologies designed to support students with special needs and tailored to their learning needs in a fast-paced learning environment in which impromptu and immediate ‘on the spot’ assistance will be necessary to assist students??

Job Requirements include:

• Knowledge of how to manage students with special needs in a variety of settings, including virtual settings?
• Knowledge of pedagogical strategies for working with students with various learner needs, disabilities, or other special needs
• Knowledge of /experience with reviewing student IEPs or 504 accommodations, including strategies to support students with special needs
• Supporting students with special needs t in becoming more confident, successful, and independent learners??
• Be direct and kind with students to support a positive virtual learning environment?
• Provide explicit modeling, and just-in-time scaffolding assistance for students who have special needs by providing resources and strategies, and through coaching of content, skills, and concepts to promote student success??
• Create on-demand, student-centered eLearning mini-lessons tailored to learning objectives that are modeled virtually and referenced within Knowledge Base articles and other formats, as needed
• Provide students positive and constructive feedback and deliver feedback in a manner that reflects awareness and consideration of students’ disabilities and/or special learning needs
• Make appropriate referrals to other educational resources as needed??

Requirements:

Qualifications:

• Educational Certifications in any area related to Special Education are preferred.
• Associates or Bachelor’s degree in education or closely related field. Have completed, or are in pursuit of a two- or four-year degree?
• Establish a friendly, encouraging, and welcoming virtual environment for students?
• Experience working with children in a virtual setting?
• Ability to teach students with special needs, of various ages, at varying levels of understanding and proficiency?
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing?
• Knowledge of tutorial/learning materials and instructional aids that support students with special needs
