BAM Construction are recruiting a Senior Structural Engineer, working remotely or from our offices in Hemel Hempstead. You will report directly to the Structural Associates and will be expected to work alongside all other design disciplines within BAM Design to ensure a coordinated approach to building design as well as the wider BAM business units.
Your mission
You will be responsible for performing and managing simple and complex analysis, design and documentation of various structures. You will also direct subordinate staff and assist with business development activities.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
• Carry out feasibility studies,
• Carry out technical audits,
• Deliver innovative, sustainable, efficient, safe, practical, and intelligent structural engineering solutions on all projects and other activities appropriate to the stage and type of project.
• You will be able to design in all materials to Eurocodes and be familiar with designing to current guidelines/legislations and Building regulations.
• Ideally be proficient in using Tekla Structural Designer and have a demonstrable experience in foundation design, steel design and reinforced concrete design and detailing. .
• Work closely with other project engineers and multidisciplinary teams
• Liaise with site construction teams on day to day running of a project.
• Attend client meetings, progress meetings and production of associated minutes/reports
• Produce project specifications.
• The post holder is expected to carry out, in addition to the already mentioned duties, any other duties reasonably expected with the general level of the post.
• Advocate knowledge sharing to all members of the project teams.
• Ensure all projects are designed and managed in line with our duties under the CDM regulations
• Working alongside junior engineers and being involved in their professional development.
Who are we looking for?
Education and Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years post graduate experience.
• Chartered Engineer through IstrucE or ICE preferable or working towards.
• Engaged in Institutes professional development
• Educated to master’s degree level or equivalent in Civil/Structural Engineering.
To succeed in this role the following key skills are required:

• Possess excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to explore, learn and use new technology and software.
• Strong communication skills, both verbally and illustratively.
• Proficiency in relevant engineering software.
• Ability to work independently to tight deadlines
• Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to plan and implement project work independently.
We would expect the Senior Structural Engineer to have the following general experience:
• General Experience of working on a number of large multidiscipline projects across all market sectors with a particular focus on Education and Commercial.
• Experience in producing technical specifications, and managing all stages of multi- disciplinary projects from proposals and initial studies through to full design and construction management is required
• Excellent working knowledge of Building Regulations and relevant Design standards
• Use/Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) to ensure systems are coordinated in a complex construction or refurbishment project.
• Excellent knowledge of RIBA work stages and the deliverables associated to the building industry.
