Literacy Specialist/READ Act Coordinator

Job Summary
This position is responsible for supporting students reading below grade level. The Literacy Specialist/READ Act
Coordinator has specialized knowledge of reading assessment and the learning to read process. He or she can assess the reading strengths and needs of students and provide that information to classroom teachers, parents, and specialized personnel in order to support the development of an effective reading intervention plan.

Looking for Full Time or Part Time.

Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

• Plan and implement reading interventions for students not meeting grade-level reading standards.
• Deliver reading interventions to individual and small groups of students
• Ensure school compliance with all state and district READ Act requirements.
• Oversee all READ plans, ensuring the appropriateness of planned interventions and the maintenance of timely and accurate progress monitoring data.
• Clearly communicate daily lesson objectives and goals
• Assess student progress and growth using both formal and informal assessment
• Establish procedure and rules to maintain order and effective classroom management
• Maintain accurate student performance records
• Communicate with parents: respond to emails and answer questions. Proactively share READ plan information.
• Foster a strong school/home connection.
• Collaborate with a team to ensure student success and create a positive culture
• Provide teacher coaching and support in implementing best practices for reading instruction
• Physical Requirements: Occasional lifting five (5) to ten (10) pounds, Frequent sitting and standing,

Occasional bending or squatting.

Job Requirements:

• B.A./B.S. degree in education and/or a related field
• Master’s degree with an emphasis on teaching reading preferred
• Elementary Teaching License
• Strong knowledge of phonics
• Attention to detail
• Minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience in kindergarten, first, second, or third grade classroom
• Experience with Fundations, Wilson, Orton Gillingham, Dibels, Guided Reading, and or Benchmark preferred

Salary: $45,000 to $57,000.00/year dependent upon years of teaching experience
