Job Title: Operations Process Engineer

Terms of Employment: Permanent – Full time

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Job Overview: This position will provide engineering support and project leadership to supply chain and manufacturing operations associated with safety, manufacturing process, quality methods, tooling, equipment, layout, space, and capacity. The successful candidate will be confident in resource planning, budgeting, change management, scope management, scheduling, and unforeseen issues in managing a project from start to end. They will plan and lead projects, and develop processes, workflows, and layouts to improve efficiency, quality, safety and reduce costs.

Reports to: Director of Manufacturing

Hours of Work: Monday – Friday (8 hours daily). A 30-minute lunch break and two (2) fifteen-minute breaks. Overtime may also be required during busy seasons or when business needs arise.

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:

• Process Engineering
• Design and implement processes and layouts for manufacturing, warehouse, and supply chain operations in accordance with safety standards, productivity improvements and ergonomic requirements.
• Participate with and provide technical support to Manufacturing including troubleshooting equipment and process problems encountered during production, time studies and development of work instructions.
• Establish and monitor processes, systems, procedures, methods, and projects designed to promote efficiency and effective space and resource utilization.
• Conduct cycle-time, method, or ergonomic studies to determine process improvements, material-handling innovations, and inventory-management solutions.
• Analysis and interpretation of process and manufacturing data to identify improvement projects, process changes, and new technologies to achieve increased productivity, enhanced manufacturing flexibility and capacity, improved product quality and safety.
• Collaborate and coordinate activity between functional leaders to ensure operational requirements are being met, and products are being manufactured to specifications.
• Perform root cause analysis on operational issues and implement corrective actions.
• Develop recommendations for process capital improvements and process automation solutions to improve process efficiency, quality and reduce costs.
• Project Management
• Plan, initiate, and manage operational projects from conception to execution.
• Lead process improvement projects that ensure appropriate stakeholder involvement and delivers on project budget and schedules.
• Effectively assign organizational resources to project tasks within the company, collaborating with appropriate functional leaders.
• Resource planning and monitoring to understand staffing requirements and develop strategies to effectively manage the project-based work.
• Develop and implement strategies to quantify and mitigate risk on projects and proposals.
• Assess and analyze overall financial and executional considerations of projects and implement strategies for improvement based on “lessons learned”.
• Develop and implement measures and tools to monitor effectiveness and quality of projects and operational resources.

Physical Requirements:

• Standing, walking, bending, sitting for extended period of time, heavy-lifting up to 50 pounds (23 kg). Exposure to height, noise, dusty environments and extreme temperatures. Manual dexterity.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Competencies:

• Relevant Engineering Degree and/or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant progressive work experience in manufacturing or operations.
• Experience in project management with progressively increasing responsibilities.
• Proven ability to create and execute project plans that have achieved the identified milestones.
• Relevant work experience in semi-automated, manual assembly product distribution environments preferred.
• Understand principals of budgeting and financing, specifically related to company operations and project management.
• Experience using established problem-solving process-improvement methodology such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma an asset.
• Good understanding of production processes, costs, quality control, material supply and manufacturing best practices to maximize production efficiency and minimize cost
• Excellent planning and organizational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
• Strong change management and communication skills.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft suite of products.
• Effective communication in English, oral and written.
