Assistant Educational Psychologist

Job Description

Reporting to:
Principal Educational Psychologist.

Responsible for:
This post carries no formal managerial or supervisory responsibilities for other staff.

Job Purpose:
Under the supervision of qualified educational psychologists, to support the work of the Educational Psychology team in the delivery of core services.

To gain experience, skills, knowledge and understanding of the role and professional practice of educational psychologists, in preparation for formal post-graduate professional training in educational psychology.

Note:

This post is suitable for psychology graduates who are awaiting, or proposing to apply for, admission to an approved course of post-graduate training leading to a doctorate-level qualification in the professional practice of educational or clinical psychology, recognised by the Health and Care Professions Council.

Duties and Responsibilities:
All duties undertaken will be subject to supervision by appropriately qualified educational psychologist employed within the team.

The duties and responsibilities allocated to the post holder will depend upon his or her knowledge, skills and experience at the time, as judged by his or her supervisors and managers.

Subject to these general conditions, the post holder may be required to undertake any or all of the following duties as from time to time are considered appropriate to his or her capability, under such level of supervision as may be deemed necessary by his or her supervisors:

• To assist educational psychologists in implementing programmes of intervention to overcome barriers to learning and to promote the social and emotional well-being of children and young people in schools, early years settings, pupil referral units and other settings.

• To support school-based interventions at SEN support of the SEND Code of Practice, as directed by an educational psychologist.

• To undertake, and assist others in undertaking, the assessment of children and young people in order to clarify their learning, social and emotional needs.

• To provide, where appropriate, direct support to children and their parents/carers through training or therapeutic interventions with individuals or groups.

• To assist educational psychologists in delivery of training and professional development for school staff and other professional groups, and training for parents/carers of children and young people.

• To assist in research activities, including the collection, analysis and maintenance of data, and in the production of information for officers of academies trusts, schools, parents, etc.

• To maintain accurate and detailed records of work undertaken, in accordance with service policies, and provide written reports where required.

• To develop a range of competencies appropriate to the work of the EPS, supported by regular supervision and practical opportunities for professional development.

• Develop skills and knowledge through participation in the process of supervision.

• To work at all times within the guidelines provided by professional Codes of Conduct of the Health and Care Professions Council and the British Psychological Society.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Salary: £30,166.00-£33,856.00 per year
