Focus Ranch is a traditional working cattle ranch that invited guests to share in the day-to-day operation of the ranch. In 2020, we stopped taking guests due to Covid issues. However, we ran the cattle operation and continue to do so but have remained closed to guests.Â
Focus Ranch was homesteaded in the late 1890’s. The dude ranch operated from 1938 through 2019. The ranch is family owned and operated. National Forest lands (Medicine Bow) join the northern border of the ranch and is the area where our 1200 plus head of yearling cattle spend most of the summer. Our employees, family and friends enjoy riding both in Colorado and Wyoming.
In 2009, we placed a conservation easement on the ranch in order to preserve it as open space and protect it from development.Â
The ranch elevation is approximately 7000 feet and the surrounding peaks soar to 10,000 feet. Â Employees join us every season for a unique, non-mainstream experience.Â
The wrangler job description is broad. The main duty is to ride and help manage approximately 1200 head of yearling heifers as they rotate through private and national forest pastures. We ride about 5.5 days a week. It is important to be a solid rider with good horse sense. Cattle experience is a plus but not required. We do expect our wranglers to be interested in the cattle operation and with training, to improve their knowledge and handling of them during their time here. This includes learning how to identify sick cattle, monitor grass and water needs, mineral usage, help doctor etc.Â
Since we hire a select crew of 7-8 individuals, all of us wear many hats to operate and prioritize the daily needs of the ranch. Other duties besides riding may include fencing, ranch maintenance, cleaning equipment, feeding barnyard animals, helping with haying, grounds maintenance, meal assistance or any other task needing to be done and with which you can assist. Many hands lighten the load!
Room and Board provided. Private rooms with ensuite bathroom.
