You’re proficient with Xero and can make it do whatever you want. You’re creative with technology and enjoy troubleshooting issues to come up with workable solutions. You’re a closet geek when it comes to programming, secretly enjoying setting things up and configuring them to work as they should, not as they come out of the box.

Since you’re proficient with journal entries, reconciliations and BAS statements, you can get all those tasks done by midday and spend the rest of your day assessing and analysing production metrics, identifying where improvements can be made across the 4 divisions and functional areas of the business.

In an ideal world, you’ll have worked with Salesforce.com and our production plug-in WorkflowMax, but that’s not a definite requirement as long as you’re a quick learner. We have all 3 systems fully integrated to ensure 100% accountability and full transparency across staff, jobs, tasks, clients and campaigns. You thrive with this level of automation and systemisation. You relish fine tuning the ‘engine’ as the situation and requirements evolve over time. In fact, planning ahead is one of your secret passions, preferring to avoid problems before they occur rather than deal with the consequences after-the-fact.

Reporting directly to the CEO and business strategist, your written and verbal communication skills are exemplary. Not only are you easily understood, you’re able to translate financial and legal/contractual jargon into plain English a fifth grader would understand.

You’re organisation and time management skills are top notch. You get stuff done before someone starts to wonder what’s (not) happening. You can easily handle two to three dozen to do list items at a time, knowing how to prioritise them from day-to-day, week-to-week depending on what’s going on in the business and the time of month.

You won’t be required to deal with clients face-to-face, but as the key financial resource, employees will rely on you for standard employment related questions.

Without providing formal tax advice, you will be the resident technical expert supporting the financial education component of the Ultimate Professional Protégé Program. You’ll present concepts and general themes at our weekly Lunch & Learn sessions and Monday morning Power Up! meetings.

As the company’s key financial and accounting resource, you’ll enjoy taking full responsibility for supplier contracts and on-going agreements drafting contracts and other legal documents on your own, with minimal supervision.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Day-to-day financial control and management of the business
• Creating weekly, and monthly reports
• Providing financial analysis to identify business opportunities and risks
• Sustaining strong working relationships with key business partners and clients
• Budgeting and forecasting, including the preparation of the annual budget as well as ongoing review and re-forecasting as necessary
• Preparing monthly accounts, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, cash flow and sales reports, P&L, variance analysis and monthly management reports
• Providing project management support, including monitoring the progress of projects
• Investigating variances, approving expenses, and ensuring that project billings are issued to customers and payments are collected (accounts payable / receivables)
• Fulfilment of taxation and other statutory requirements including BAS, PAYG, Payroll Tax, and FBT returns, Workers’ Compensation Superannuation, ASIC
• End-to-end preparation of fortnightly employee payroll as well as managing leave records and entitlements
• Managing and coordinating with the external accountant
• Assessing and reducing fixed spending and variable overhead spending
• Increasing efficiency in handling accounting controls, and implementing budget forecasting
• Performing budget vs actual performance variance analysis
• Extracting and summarising in everyday English critical finance-related information for distribution and discussion with key stakeholders and divisional heads
• Maintaining up-to-date industry knowledge
• Assuming the responsibility of the financial driver of the business for short and long-term growth, stability, and profitability goals
• Establishing proper metrics for meaningful business improvement
• Proactive approach about identifying problems before they arise

Mandatory skills, experience and requirements:

• Experienced Financial Controller with bookkeeping experience
• Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred, but not mandatory
• Have an excellent level of financial and accounting experience
• Ability to communicate effectively across disciplines
• Ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines
• Ability to improve and optimise current practices and processes
• Attention to detail in all aspects of the position
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Mastery of Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Knowledge of Xero preferred, but not mandatory
