UK Northwest – Sailmaker’s Apprentice

• Duties include: *
• Preparing assembly items for sail manufacturing and repair
• Shipping and receiving
• Moving sails within the loft and retrieving for client pickup
• Aiding in removing and installing sails on boats
• Assisting sailmakers as required

• Employment Information:
• Hours: Monday-Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
• Breaks: two fifteen-minute coffee breaks and a half-hour lunch break are scheduled, a half hour of which is paid if working a full day or 15minutes for a half day.
• Vacation pay of 4% is paid out each pay period during a 3-month probationary period. Thereafter it’s accrued for one-year, allowing for 2-weeks of paid vacation after the anniversary of the end of an employee’s probation period.
• Staff reviews are conducted bi-annually in January and August with the intention of laying out individual goals for the upcoming busy season and then assessing results after the Company’s fiscal year-end.
• Employment will start with a 3 month probation period with hold no harm clause.

• Wages: *
• Wages are paid bi-weekly on Fridays for the pay period ending the previous Friday
• At a semi-annual Review, the apprentice can expect a $1.50 increase assuming they are meeting the expectation of progress & productivity.
• It is expected that an apprentice will take 4-5 years to learn the trade of sailmaking. At that time, increases in compensation are no longer fixed but instead performance-based and are tied to the company’s revenue. Said compensation could be through profit sharing or new sail commissions.
