Summary of Functions
The primary purpose of the Methods Engineer is to:
Be accountable for developing and revising Engineering Masters (EM’s), planning documents and others to ensure that they properly define HOW the aircraft assembly, sub-assemblies and parts are manufactured in accordance with the type design
Research and propose engineering changes
Supporting Production, Quality, Procurement, and other internal groups about solving relevant technical problems.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Engineering Master (EM)
Create EM’s to define parts, tools, processes, sequence and special instruction required to purchase or build a part/assembly
Ensure EM’s result in an aircraft that meets the approved Type Design
Perform changes to the EMs IAW the ECN process
Methods Supplement Documents
Create and revise supplemental documentation to fully define the agreed build sequence of the aircraft assembly and sub-assemblies.
Ensure workbooks are sequenced in correlation with the Engineering Master
Create Work Instructions (WI) under the Quality Management System (QMS) to define how Viking Manufacturing Processes are performed
Engineering Change Process
Record and submit Engineering change requests for changes to design and tools producing non-conforming product
Record and submit Engineering change requests for changes to build, design and tools required to improve efficiency and quality of builds
Record and submit Engineering change requests to initiate Make vs Buy decisions
Execute ECN related tasks to incorporate Type Design and Build changes
First Line of Technical Support for Manufacturing
Trouble shoot technical manufacturing problems
Participate in investigations into technical issues, including assisting in Root Cause Analysis
Consult with Liaison Engineering to initiate resolutions to build or design technical issues reported through the NCM Process
Liaise with QC, Quality Engineering, and Supply Chain to develop resolutions and implement changes to technical or quality problems
Participate in continual improvement initiatives including internal/external audits
Assist Planning in execution of NCM Tasks (i.e… Work order instructions)
Represent and report on Methods Engineering functions
Build Cost Reductions and Improvements
Assist Area Managers in developing plans to increase efficiency including acquisition and implementation of new equipment
Engage in company initiatives/projects to increase production rate and reduce costs
Training
Assist in developing and rolling out technical skills training for manufacturing and assembly personnel to support the Quality Management System (QMS)
Assist training of Production, QC and Methods Engineering and co-op personnel
Experience and/or Educational Requirements
Degree or diploma in Engineering or Engineering Technology; or equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Aircraft Maintenance Engineer)
5-10 years of progressive hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the aerospace industry
Knowledge of the fabrication and assembly of aircraft parts
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Working knowledge of cost accounting and cost estimating.
Knowledge of Aerospace engineering and manufacturing principles and techniques.
Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and process design issues.
Ability to read and interpret aircraft engineering drawings.
Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
Ability to communicate and document information using a computer and required software.
Ability to manage and act on multiple projects and priorities at one time.
Ability to work effectively either independently or with others on flexible work assignments.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to walk, stand and sit for long periods of time in a production environment. Eyesight must be sufficient to be able to read fine print and aircraft engineering drawings details.
