Maitland City Council Hiring for Finance Accountant – Compliance Job at Maitland Full Time

This role provides expert financial services, advice and reporting to Council’s leadership team ensuring compliance with tax legislation, accounting requirements and grants acquittals. We are seeking an experienced finance accountant to join the team of our Chief Financial Officer and support our key financial reporting functions. This is a temporary, opportunity until May 2023.

The Opportunity

Responsible for key reporting activities, this role prepares regular statements and returns within statutory frameworks such as the monthly business activity statement, fuel tax credit returns and annual fringe benefit tax return. In support of year end processes, the role also assists with the preparation of annual budgets, financial statements, and various other management reports. The role also prepares financial statements for community and other relevant groups that utilize Council’s ABN. In addition to reporting responsibilities, this role prepares Council’s relevant grant acquittals and coordinates and reconciles loan borrowings and hire purchase agreements. Working across the Finance team, the Finance Accountant – Compliance assists with day-to-day accounting duties, maintain Council’s asset register, and provide support and training to internal customers regarding financial matters.

You

To succeed in this role, you will have degree qualifications in Commerce, Business or related discipline or significant contemporary experience in a relevant field coupled with profession-specific training/education. You will have demonstrated experience in the preparation of Statutory Financial Statements and management reports, and solid experience and knowledge of accounting functions, Goods & Services Tax (GST) and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT). With well-developed analytical and conceptual skills with proven ability to analyse financial data and prepare meaningful reports, your ability to stick to deadlines and keep tasks and projects on track is a must.

This is a temporary, full-time role (until May 2023) with a salary ranging from $80,229 up to $89,054 per year based on previous skills and experience + super.
