Our Financial Services team is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to fill a temporary maternity leave cover for the position of Senior Accountant (Financial Services).

You will assist in the management of the accounting function to provide effective control, and efficient use, of Council’s financial transactions, assets and investments. In addition, you will improve organisational effectiveness by providing an advisory analysis and information service to assist business units with decision making and planning.

You will contribute towards a culture of continuous improvement by:

• Providing specialist advice on financial matters to management and staff.
• Development and maintenance of financial modelling
• Assist with preparation of the long-term financial plan, budgets and annual statements
• Providing specialist advice on financial matters to management and staff.
• Dealing promptly, empathetically and efficiently with requests for information and assistance.
• Analysing the City’s overall performance and trends and providing recommendations on how best to improve performance.
• Working effectively with auditors, government and other agencies and finance industry representatives.
• Preparing month and year-end financial reports and returns in a timely manner in accordance with relevant standards and legislation.
• Management and review of general ledger functions, reconciliations and journals.
• Facilitating the continuous improvement of existing systems and processes.
• Providing assistance to Managers and staff in analysing financial data.
• Developing and maintaining systems to improve performance in Corporate Services
• Ensuring accounting functions meet the City’s financial services requirements.
• Managing forward planning and forecasting.

What you will bring to the team

To be successful you will have:

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or Commerce
• Membership in CA or CPA qualification
• National Police Clearance
• Previous experience of accounting and management in a medium/large organisation
• Good report writing and presentation skills
• Understanding of business systems
• High level competence in financial management and accounting
• Excellent computer literacy
• Ability to interpret complex financial data
• Sound analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong business acumen
• Commitment to continuous improvement
• Planning and organisation skills
• Communication/interpersonal skills
• Ability to work unsupervised

The finer details

This fulltime permanent position attracts a Level 7 remuneration of $93,254 – $99,088 gross per annum dependent on qualifications and experience and a wide range of benefits to reward your contribution.
