Amazonia are offering an exciting opportunity for a full-time Education Officer to join their team. Situated within Lochview Theme Park, Strathclyde Country Park, Amazonia is a tropical house, home to a variety of species including small primates, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates.
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to implement an interesting and exciting education programme aimed at improving public understanding of the natural world.
The successful applicant will support the Zookeepers and work alongside the Zoo Manager, focussing time on the day-to-day educational aspects of the collection, alongside carrying out general zoo duties.
You will have keen observation skills, great time management and be able to prioritise tasks to ensure the highest standard of care for the collection. We pride ourselves on offering interesting and engaging experiences to our visitors – through hosting group visits, animal encounter sessions, keeper for the day experiences, birthday parties and various public presentations.

We are looking for someone with:
A good understanding of conservation education within the role of a modern zoological collection
Experience developing and delivering educational content and the ability to interact and engage with audiences of all ages
A minimum of 2 years experience working within a zoological environment, preferably with invertebrates, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
Experience of working within an educational/zoo environment and have a good understanding of the Scottish school and college syllabuses
The ability to be a confident presenter, organised team player and excellent communicator
Self-motivation and the ability to work productively both within a team and alone
A degree in a relevant science
Experience in the use of computers and Microsoft Office software
Excellent written and spoken English
A flexible approach to work and ability to work under pressure
Excellent customer service skills
A full clean driving license
This vacancy is a full-time position, working 42.5 hours a week, with weekend and public holidays being part of your working rota. The company provides 28 days annual holiday.
