About VMIA

Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) is the Victorian Government’s insurer and risk adviser, covering the people and projects that help Victorians thrive. We’re an agency in the Department of Treasury and Finance portfolio established under the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority Act, and report to the Assistant Treasurer.

We provide insurance and risk advice to government departments and agencies, with more than 4,600 clients ranging from small community service organisations to public hospitals, schools, and core service providers. We also provide domestic building insurance to builders, giving Victorian homeowners peace of mind for building projects valued over $16,000.

We help our clients prepare for, prevent, or reduce the impact of harm. When things don’t go to plan, we help clients restore services and recover quickly.

Your role

As an Accounts Payable Officer within the Financial Accounting team, you are responsible for the conduct of general accounting duties and the management and integrity of the Accounts Payable (AP) functions of the VMIA.

You achieve this through the timely and efficient processing of PO and invoicing, EFT and refund payments, and all month end processing including reconciliations and reporting.

You use your strong problem-solving capability to investigate and resolve any issues relating to AP that are reported on our internal Jira Software Ticketing System

You provide support to the broader Finance Operations team as required.

Your role reports to the Finance Operations Lead in the Business Performance Division.

Who you work with

• You will work collaboratively with the Financial Operations Lead to implement leading practices and processes in accounting, tax compliance and accounts payable.
• You will support VMIA Staff through provision of efficient and timely processing and data in full compliance with legislative and reporting standards.
• You will partner with the Finance Business Partnering team to provide cross functional support and ensure business continuity and compliance with all business and financial processing and reporting standards.

About you

• You possess demonstrable experience in the application of accounting principles relevant for the effective management of the accounts payable functions with a successful and proven record in managing and performing accounts payable, accounts and general accounting duties.
• In addition, you have strong Information Technology skills supported by experience with accounting systems and MS Excel software (TechnologyOne, Invoice Scanning software and PO systems desirable)
• You thrive in a collaborative team environment and possess a strong customer service mindset which you apply in the way you approach issue management and resolution.
