Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company has an immediate full-time opening in our Corporate Accounting department for an experienced, self-motivated, and results-oriented accountant responsible for the accurate preparation of accounting entries, account reconciliations and monitoring of internal control processes. This position will actively participate in an environment that embraces change and innovation, learning, and interactive feedback while adhering to finance policies, procedures and internal controls.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Coordinates the periodic compilation or execution of timely and accurate financial transactions and/or reports which includes variance analysis and/or a clear understanding of accounting transactions and financial reporting implications.
• Prepare monthly account reconciliations. Utilizing financial and nonfinancial data to identify trends, risks, and/or indicators. Analyzing variances and utilizing critical thinking skills to identify solutions.
• Identifies continuous improvement opportunities and works to implement updated processes.
• Complete required internal control processes working with business partners to ensure compliance with internal control processes owned by Corporate Accounting.
• Seeks out projects and takes leadership role with increasing frequency.
• Participates in and documents key processes, decisions and insights.
• Seeks to improve understanding of business products and strategy.
• Operates collaboratively while building relationships with business partners.

ABOUT YOU:

• Strong knowledge of finance and/or accounting practices and procedures preferably common to an insurance industry finance environment.
• Ability to establish deadlines for themselves & team and execute against them.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting, preferably in an insurance setting.
• Strong communication skills verbally, non-verbally and in written formats, with peers and management including in times of conflict and negotiation.
• Strong technical knowledge across a wide range of complex financial concepts and processes.
• Strong attention to detail and follow-up, analytical acumen and excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple and competing priorities across team members.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Ability to work with and maintain secure and confidential information as well as escalate data breach if they occur.
• Self-driven with demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity, influence change with peers, management, and business partners.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrates initiative to consistently improve processes through creativity and flexibility with minimal supervision.
• Deep understanding of the products and elements of the business.
• Developing project management skills and ability to influence others.

• You are able to work remotely and have access to high-speed internet.

VALUABLE EXPERIENCE:

• Strong knowledge of key Mutual systems, including but not limited to Peoplesoft, Essbase, or BOE.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience in accounting related field.
• Experience in insurance industry.
• Understanding of statutory accounting and/or insurance business processes.
• CPA, CMA or equivalent a plus.
