About the role
This permanent opportunity will provide great exposure to a large and complex transportation business with a broad national footprint and a key role in keeping Australia’s economy running. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Finance Analyst supports the Accounting Manager with the accounting processes for Operational expenses. Initiative, effective communication, analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, as well as the ability to work effectively with systems and reporting tools, and the ability to review and understand business processes.
Key responsibilities include:

• Complete month end accounting process for areas of responsibility.
• Complete balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis and take appropriate actions to clear outstanding items
• Support process management and improvement tasks
• Provide monthly management reports, variance analysis and any other financial reports as required.
• Continue to streamline existing accounting processes via implementation of best practice.
• Support internal and external audit functions
• Ensure accounting standards are adhered to at all times across accounting processes
• Provide business partnering and assistance to the finance business partnering team
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting

About your experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, experience and attributes:

• Experience gained in a financial or management accounting role, particularly supporting budgeting processes
• Ability to listen and gain a valid understanding of business issues and projects
• Willingness to challenge the status quo in a balanced and constructive manner
• Good time management skills
• Ability to deal with competing pressures
• Strong work ethic
• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting / Finance
• Experience in an operational business preferred but not essential
• Knowledge of current Finance standards
• PeopleSoft, TM1 exposure preferred but not essential
