POSITION OVERVIEW

Canberra Health Services (CHS) is focussed on the delivery of high quality, effective, person centred care. It provides acute, sub-acute, primary and community‐based health services, to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and surrounding region. The Canberra Health Service (CHS) Diabetes Service is an interprofessional team comprising medical, nursing and allied health professionals. The service provides a coordinated and integrated service between the Canberra Hospital and various community-based locations within the ACT. Clients seen include adolescents and adults with diabetes and women with hyperglycaemia in pregnancy (HIP).

This nursing role requires the ability to provide appropriate skilled clinical assessment and intervention for clients with diabetes across CHS Health Campuses.

The Diabetes Nurse will be responsible professionally to the Senior Nurse Clinician of the CHS Diabetes Service.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

• Relevant qualifications as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA)
• Post-graduate qualifications from a university or tertiary institution in Diabetes Education. Is an Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) credentialed diabetes educator or is working towards obtaining credentialing status.
• Must hold and maintain a current driver’s licence.
• Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
• Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.

Prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:

• Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
• Obtain a Compliance Certificate from OMU (Occupational Medicine Unit) relating to assessment, screening, and vaccination processes against specified infectious diseases.
