Controller

Bay Standard is seeking a Controller to run all aspects of accounting, treasury, tax, and general financial management for the Company. The Controller will be responsible for all aspects of accounting, managing the Company’s tax and audit advisors, financial forecasting, monitoring loan and collateral compliance, and serving as an advisor to the CEO.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Controller to contribute significantly to a private equity portfolio company. While the basic requirements of the position are to manage the accounting, tax, and financial aspects of the business, the Controller will be encouraged to contribute across a broader range of strategic and operational responsibilities. We envision this person to be the “right-hand” executive to the CEO, and this position is a tremendous opportunity for a candidate with an accounting background and long-term interest in developing into a senior operating executive.

Key areas of responsibility include:

· Oversees the general accounting function, which includes accounting, cash management/reconciliation, financial reporting, balance sheet management, monthly reporting, and loan compliance.

• Provides technical accounting GAAP guidance and support for the company. At times, this may include involvement in due diligence and other activities surrounding acquisitions/dispositions.
• Prepare annual operating plans, track company progress and provide variance analysis.
• Responsible for execution of monthly financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting processes, including detailed monthly P&L forecasting and variance analysis.
• Ensures that company financial records, under responsibility, are maintained in compliance with company policies and US GAAP. Responsible for creating and reviewing monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and other documents to ensure this compliance.
• Facilitates and supports detailed operational processes that have a financial impact to the business. Drives continuous process improvement and efficiency.
• Leads a growing team, while ensuring constant team development with an eye towards progression and retention.
• Supervises the completion of Federal, State, and Local tax reporting requirements (including income, property, sales and use, payroll and other local taxes), insurance reports and other reports required by government regulation. Also, responsible for tax related issues and meeting reporting requirements.

· Coordinates work relating to both internal and external audits in the periodic review of the company financial records. Is further responsible for the implementation of agreed upon recommendations, related to areas of responsibility, resulting from the audit findings.

· Support current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation and preservation of accounting staff.

• Deliver timely reports to the Board of Directors; oversee all company financial management and operating metrics.

Qualifications:

• Undergraduate Degree in Accounting/Finance.

• CPA certification is a plus.

· At least 5 years of combined Public Accounting and Private Industry accounting experience.

• Experience with private equity portfolio companies is a plus.
• Experience managing treasury and lender compliance (reporting and covenant maintenance) is a plus.

• Prior management experience.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting, required.
• Excellent decision-making skills. Ability to anticipate challenges, prioritize and respond effectively to the most sensitive issues.
• Strong work ethic and adaptable. Ability to handle and manage multiple projects and work streams. Decisions made with in-depth understanding and interpretation of procedures, company policies and business practices to achieve complex results.
• Experience with or knowledge of general contractors, property management companies, and labor unions in the Bay Area is a plus.
• Familiarity with Quickbooks, Sage, Procore, Mhelpdesk, QuickBooks Time (TSheets), and other comparable software platforms is a plus.
• Accounting system implementation and integration with project management software platforms experience is a plus.
• High integrity and excellent professional references.
• Preference for candidates currently residing in Northern California.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $125,000.00 – $150,000.00 per year
