The Assistant Director of Residence Education leads the educational and administrative efforts for one area of campus within Housing and Residence Life. The position is a key coordinator of formulation of student learning outcomes, providing educational opportunities to students, and assessing that learning in a systematic way consistent with SACS requirements. The Assistant Director assists with retention, progression, and graduation of students.
Duties and Responsibilities
Staff Supervision & Training
Coordinates, or assists with, the recruitment processes for 7 Resident Directors, full-time administrative staff, 93+ Resident Assistants, other student staff, and Graduate Assistants; supervises 3-4 full time Resident Directors; oversees the supervision of up to 2-6 Administrative Assistants, up to 3 Graduate Assistants, approximately 40-60 RAs, and numerous student staff; coordinates, or assists with, staff training for full time and student staff throughout the year (weekly, monthly, & semester basis); and coordinates full-time and student staff evaluations.
Student Development & Education
Responsible for designing, implementing, and revising a curricular approach to residential education, using an outcomes-based learning model, to support the retention, progression, and graduation of students; assesses, or assists in the assessment of, all educational initiatives within Housing & Residence Life; responsible for maintaining Living and Learning Communities, by way of staff hiring, day-to-day supervision, and problem-solving; works in collaboration with Housing and Residence Life, Academic Affairs, and Student Development, as appropriate; coordinates, or assist with, the Freshmen Academic Success Tracking (FAST) program in conjunction with the Enrollment Services; and advises, or assists with, Residence Hall Association (RHA), Community Councils, and Resident Assistant Council.
Administration
Manages short and long-term projects and sees them through implementation; attends various meeting, oversees departmental committees, and serves on university committees as needed; collaborates with other departments and offices on and off campus; reviews and revises publications, including Residence Life training materials, the housing web page, and others; assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures; and manages area budget(s) related to educational and training initiatives, as assigned.
Conduct & Crisis Management
Available 24/7 for crisis situations and offers immediate support and resources to students and staff involved; updates appropriate supervisors in a timely manner of situations that arise; assists in the coordination of the conduct process and student of concern referrals within specified area; serves as conduct hearing officer by investigating cases quickly and efficiently, while observing due process; advises individual residents, students, and student staff; and meets with individuals on a regular basis for conflict mediation/resolution, discuss concerns or disciplinary action.
Summer School/Special Projects
Responsible for, or assists with, the day-to-day operation of summer school to include check-ins, check-outs, and staff supervision; interfaces with internal and external stakeholders; extensive summer training preparation for 100+ staff members lasting five weeks or more; extensive and intensive planning for long-term and academic year projects during summer; peak time: May-August; and performs other duties assigned, including autonomous decision making and authority regarding Residence Life matters in the Associate Director’s absence.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field and 3 years of full time experience in Housing and Residence Life with supervision of resident assistants and/or graduate assistants, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in recruiting, selecting, and training resident assistant staff; and experience working with residential curriculum.
