Freddie Hiring for Software Developer Lead at Calgary, AB Full Time

About us:
Freddie’s (www.gofreddie.com) mission is an ambitious one: halving the spread of new HIV infections. HIV is on the rise, and over 50% of new HIV cases are in the LGBTQ2S+ community. Freddie has built a direct-to-consumer telemedicine offering to enable this community to access PrEP, an HIV prevention medication that reduces the risk of acquiring HIV by 99%. We launched in July 2020 and have quickly grown to become the largest HIV prevention service in Canada. And we’re just getting started.

Using our learnings from Freddie, we recently launched Frida (www.talkwithfrida.com), a direct-to-consumer telemedicine provider that provides mental healthcare, starting with ADHD. Frida will provide a streamlined way to access ADHD care, without the yearlong waits commonly experienced in the traditional Canadian healthcare system.

About the role:
Freddie is scaling up our product, clinical, and operations teams as we continue to grow. We are seeking an experienced Software Developer Lead who will help us build our amazing healthcare platform and support a team of amazing Software Developers. This position is a hybrid role, where you have the opportunity to lead a team (25% of the time), but you still get to flex your technical skills by directly contributing on projects (75% of the time). You will be a part of our growing development team, surrounded by great people working in many diverse fields like product management, product design, data science, growth marketing, etc.

We prefer people based in Calgary (where we have an office), but are also open to remote candidates in Canada with permanent work-from-home options.

Responsibilities:
Invest time in understanding each team member’s capabilities, aspirations, the future of their work, and use that insight to ensure they are given opportunities to grow and learn

Work on the React/Typescript front-end and/or Ruby on Rails back-end

Foster a diverse and inclusive, collaborative environment which focuses on delivering high levels of team member engagement and high performance

Provide guidance, instruction and feedback to the team to break down barriers and solve problems

Take designs from our product team and execute them in our application.

Implement analytics into the work that you do so that we can measure its effect on our users

Write well-tested code

Analyze business requirements and convert them into technical plans

Meet with dev team members regularly to provide and collect feedback

Assist with hiring as we continue to grow

What we’re looking for:

Requirements:
Highly proficient in React and/or Ruby on Rails with 5+ years experience

2+ years of people lead experience, preferably in an agile environment

Experience in front-end and back-end software development or specialized in front-end or back-end development, you choose.

Experience developing and implementing complex workflows and application components

Great communication skills (both written and verbal)

Work collaboratively and independently

Knowledge of TailwindCSS, Github Actions, Heroku, Netlify, Segment, Sentry is preferred, but not a requirement
