Introduction:

The Economist is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our my accounts/group subs engineering team, based in Birmingham but with a work from home policy in place.
The my accounts area of any application/website is vital to users interaction with an organisation, by joining the my accounts team, you will be joining a team that has helped to engage with thousands of users, driving the experience they have with the Economist.
You’ll work in an agile environment, shipping multiple times a day to production to ensure quick feedback loops around the success—or not—of our features and experiments.

Location
This role is available in our central Birmingham office, just a five minute walk from New Street Station and minutes from Snow Hill Station.
We offer flexible working and have a work from home policy in place which can be discussed further.

Accountabilities:


How you will contribute:
  • Work on the team that is essential to growing and retaining our subscriber base
  • Work with our designers and product owners in our product organisation to create a seamless user experience
  • Work within a Next.js and React app, deploying into AWS
  • Using enterprise level technology like Zoura and Salesforce
  • Bring features from specification to production
  • Work with teammates to produce high-quality solutions.
  • Ship to production on your first day

  • Commercial experience building for the web
  • understanding of mobile web
  • You’re comfortable working in the browser as well as in the backend
  • A good understanding of semantic HTML, CSS, and core JavaScript concepts
  • Experience in modern frameworks such as React and Next.js
  • Knowledge of AWS and the many services
  • Experience writing automated tests
  • You’ll value well-thought-out and straightforward solutions to problems
  • Interest in frontend performance, accessibility and user experience
  • Working with 3rd party APIs
