Automata is building a world-class automation company and disrupting the Life Sciences industry by creating and deploying fully automated solutions into labs across the world.
We’re changing perceptions that robotics and automation technology is expensive and complex and we’re redefining what it is to ‘work’ by empowering industries to automate previously dangerous, boring and difficult physical work.
The Role
We are looking for an organised and diligent Junior Accountant to own and be responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of bank reconciliations, accounts payable and decentralised spending platform Pleo, among other responsibilities. You will report to our Finance Lead and work very closely with our Finance Manager as well as various teams across the business.
You will have impact from day one and play a key role in supporting a best-in-class Finance function.
This role is not available for 100% remote work, however, we have a hybrid approach to being in the office – 2/3 days per week.
Salary band – £35,000 – £45,000 depending on experience.
The core of your role will involve:
Bank & Payments: oversee the use of Pleo (both virtual cards and expenses) and manage business cards, manage budgets in our Sunlight L&D spending platform, onboarding and offboarding employees from accounting platforms
Bank Reconciliations: perform weekly bank reconciliations on Xero, automate the reconciliation process, ensure tax invoices are properly uploaded in the system
Accounts Payable: be responsible for posting incoming invoices on a weekly basis, assess and improving processes that help the finance team handle the increasing workload
EOM supplier statements: ensure credit account balances are up to date on a monthly basis and match with supplier records
System Integration: ensure that the accounting softwares in use talk between each other, investigate integration issues and help integrate new softwares
Expenses: review and approve employees’ expenses on Xero Expenses/Pleo Pocket, submit for payment on a monthly basis
Company Policy & Handbook: audit finance ops processes on a regular basis and update the company handbook accordingly to make sure that information is clearly shared across the whole team
Communication: handle inbound AP & payment questions from team members and redirect them to the right stakeholder when needed
What it takes
Experience – a good understanding of accounting and bookkeeping experience, knowledge of Xero, Pleo, Spendesk or other similar accounting and spending software
Accuracy – very organised and with very strong attention to detail, meticulous at e-filing
Self-starter – proactive, comfortable at setting and taking ownership of their own direction although there will be plenty of guidance and support
Self-developer – constantly looking for new things and systems to learn and quickly. Finance is continuously developing and the ideal person will need the curiosity to figure things out on their own and get to the bottom of complex problems
Communication – not satisfied with generic answers, naturally ask lots of questions and keep stakeholders always informed in the most effective way
Builder – the ideal person will look forward to stress test, improve or re-built processes from scratch to always create something meaningful
Growth mindset – the ideal person will have scaling in mind in everything they do and be willing to spend time to do things right from the very beginning
What does Automata offer you?
You will find a very unique culture that is built on trust, autonomy and responsibility and encourages innovation, learning and knowledge sharing. We want people to own what they do, make mistakes, learn, and create something meaningful. Not least, we promise you will find amazing people and have a lot of fun every single day.
Automata believe in a hybrid way of working between home and the office. Our approach enables people to find the work-life balance that suits them. The mix of remote and office working gives the flexibility, whilst offering enough presence to ensure everyone is able to connect and collaborate – innovation is driven by our people and when we come together, we achieve incredible things.
What gets us excited?
We’re passionate about the future of Technology and Robotics and our growing success is built upon like minded individuals who share our passion and want to put their pride in our collective achievements.
We are excited about placing the Finance function at the very core of strategic decision making by understanding products and business operations inside out and by providing timely and impeccable sets of data to key stakeholders.
If this sounds like a good fit, we want to meet you!
