The Team

Power & Utilities is a key business area for IAG and encompasses work for all of the leading UK energy and water companies, investors, regulators, as well as some of the key players in the EU and beyond. We provide in-depth advice on corporate finance; project finance; regulation and policy, as well as other strategic issues affecting value including in the areas of energy transition and achieving Net Zero targets. Our work combines elements of finance, strategy and economics to assist our clients in structuring investments, securing financing and most efficiently leveraging the commercial/regulatory mechanisms. We are widely recognised by many industry stakeholders as one of the most innovative advisors influencing the future of the sector, with a strong focus on the road to Net Zero.

Our business is expanding rapidly and we are looking for a high-quality candidate to support our expansion, with a particular focus on the project financing of energy and water assets. Examples of these include Offshore Transmission Owners (OFTOs), Competitively Appointed Transmission Owners (CATO), electricity interconnectors, Direct Procurement for Customers (DPC), and Regulatory Alliance for the Progression of Infrastructure (RAPID).

We are seeking an individual who will support the team in terms of both project management and the delivery of assignments, with a focus on financial and commercial advice on PPP/PFI transactions including financial modelling.

The Role

• Contributing to the delivery of multiple projects simultaneously;
• Managing the delivery of specific engagements on a day-to-day basis;
• Building and maintaining relationships with clients at the relevant levels;
• Producing high-quality documentation and presentations;
• Specifying, producing and evaluating financial models;
• Supporting with business development initiatives and network building;
• Supporting proposals and pitch development for new business;
• Developing market intelligence and sector knowledge;
• Introducing new ideas to the team to support in targeting clients;
• Ensuring compliance and risk management procedures are adhered to;
• Managing project planning, delivery and closure; and
• Any other duties commensurate with the role.

The Person

Essential

• Analytical approach to problem solving and intellectual curiosity;
• Deep understanding the risks and issues associated with infrastructure projects;
• Good knowledge of financing structures, particularly project finance debt and equity infrastructure investment;
• Skilled in financial modelling, including experience in preparing and maintaining bid-side project finance models;
• Strong report and business case writing, Excel and Power-point skills;
• Relish the opportunity for interaction and dialogue with companies, lenders, investors and other stakeholders, and with a host of functions across KPMG;
• Provide persuasive and self-assured responses in a credible manner;
• Be a highly motivated, ambitious self-starter, willing to take advantages of the opportunities this position offers;
• Have experience of working in and managing people in teams; and
• Appreciate the chance to work on a wide range of projects and proposals simultaneously to often demanding timetables.

Desirable

• Experience of structuring and delivering project finance / private finance (PFI / PPP) transactions;
• Understanding of credit rating methodology or frameworks;
• Understanding of major capital projects delivery within the public arena and familiarity with public procurement processes;
• Understanding of the UK water and energy sectors, including main drivers of investments and current regulatory framework and landscape;
• Knowledge of main players in the utilities sector and the wider investor community;
• Knowledge of finances and financial structures of water companies and utilities more generally;
• Appropriate professional qualification in accounting, banking or similar, or credible levels of practical experience in these areas; and
• Familiarity with Bloomberg, Eikon or other financial databases.
