More about the role:

Sainsbury’s Group offers hundreds of thousands of different products to our customers. The quality of the data we collect, store, manage and disseminate about those products is critical both for our customers and our colleagues. Customers need to be able to easily find information about products assist them in selection, and our colleagues across the business need timely accurate to help them operationally deal with products in warehouses, trucks and stores.

We have a whole engineering area dedicated to managing product data, with engineers all currently working remotely from home, but normally based in Central London (Holborn) or Central Milton Keynes.

We have a microservices mindset, with containerised services being the default. We adopt a CI/CD approach and you will get to work with the latest technologies. Teams are self-organising and you’ll get to solve interesting technical challenges every day; Our teams are encouraged to explore and adopt new technologies to solve the challenges they face.

We’re looking for a talented, enthusiastic and motivated Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our agile teams. You’ll work day-to-day with talented engineers, product owners and engineering managers to write software solutions that test greenfield products that make part of the next generation Sainsbury’s Tech Commercial platform. Successful candidates will have a passion for software engineering, and test automation. You will be trained by thought leaders in the technology landscape. You may consider yourself an established SDET already, or you may be an established software engineer who is interested in becoming an Engineer in Test.

Typical Technologies in our stack for this role:

Python, PyTest, Flask, MongoDB, GraphQL, Selenium, Cypress, Cucumber, Browser Stack, Redis, Java, SpringBoot, Terraform, Apache Kafka, AWS/SQS/Lambda, Kubernetes, Marathon, Docker, CSS/SASS. We integrate and build with Jenkins, CircleCI. We keep track of everything using Git, Jira & Confluence and monitor with Kibana, DataDog, etc.. We have a microservices mindset. You don’t need experience with everything in this list! But we hope you’re interested in learning & working with the ones you don’t already know!

What you will be doing:

• Daily, you will be working on writing software to test well-defined features and learning from your colleagues in a supportive, creative and safe environment.
• Creating world class, business critical, cutting edge enterprise software is created.
• Creating functional and non-functional testable scenarios from business requirements, and building test plans.
• Maintaining build validation, regression & automation tests.
• Conducting microservices & UI testing.
• Writing & optimizing automation scripts using BDD.
• Building tests to run in a continuous integration environment.
• Running tests to ensure our software is performant and secure.

What we’re looking for:

• A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• A natural problem solver with a passion for engineering applied to QA and test automation; dynamic and adaptable to learn new technologies.
• An inquisitive mind that wants to understand how software works and how to break it.
• Excellent team player, willing to improve, grow and help others.
• Solid engineering and coding skills. Ability to write high performance production quality testing code, front end and back end. Experience in Selenium, Cucumber is a huge advantage.
